Duties The Team Leader supports a partial juvenile litigation caseload and supervises up to five attorneys who handle juvenile litigation, appeals, licensing, and other related work. Key responsibilities include: Providing attorney‑of‑the‑day coverage on juvenile court calendars. Reviewing referrals for legal sufficiency and reviewing discovery. Interviewing witnesses and preparing for trial. Writing and responding to motions and giving case‑specific advice to client agency social workers. Training, coaching, and mentoring attorneys of varying experience levels. Evaluating attorney performance and supporting professional development. Overseeing case assignments, workload distribution, and coverage of 11‑12 calendars per week. Participating in division leadership meetings and contributing to operational process development. Meeting regularly with client agencies to provide training, consult on case matters, and address operational issues. The position is located in downtown Seattle, with court appearances in Seattle, the Central District of Seattle, and Kent. Appearances may be in‑person or via Zoom, depending on the hearing type. The role is fast‑paced, high‑volume, and often involves emotionally charged and emergent situations. Qualifications Solid understanding of child welfare law and the ability to stay current with frequent legislative, case law, and policy changes. Juvenile or related trial experience with excellent trial skills. Exceptional communication skills, including approachability, active listening, and outstanding written and oral advocacy skills. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish productive relationships within the division, with the court, client agencies, and other stakeholders. Proactive problem‑solving, pragmatic solution proposal, and implementation follow‑through. Excellent multitasking and organizational skills while managing an active caseload and supervisory duties. Ability to handle emotionally difficult material and support staff in coping with stressful situations. Patience, sensitivity, and discretion for addressing personnel issues. Flexibility and quick adaptation to changing circumstances. Commitment to public‑interest law, teamwork, and fostering a positive, inclusive workplace. Applicants must have graduated from an ABA‑accredited law school or completed the WSBA Rule 6 Law Clerk Program and be licensed to practice law in Washington state. Applicants actively pursuing admission by motion will also be considered. Salaries range from $88,056 to $164,940 and the position is eligible for 5% King County Assignment Pay.
