Automation Engineer

Senior Controls Engineer | Material Handling Automation | Remote + Field-Based | Up to 30% Travel Senior Controls Engineer needed with experience of delivering concept through commissioning, panel design through field debug, programming through project management. We're working exclusively with a leading material handling automation business. A well-established, growing company trusted by major clients across North America to deliver complex automated systems from the ground up. They're looking for a senior technical mind who can own the controls side of a project, mentor junior engineers, and help customers succeed in their markets. THE ROLE This is a full-lifecycle controls engineering position. You'll be involved in design, build, commissioning and handover. You'll also play a key role in developing new controls processes and technologies, solving complex technical problems, and bringing junior engineers up behind you. Travel is approximately 30%, typically structured as two-week rotational site visits, with the rest of your time remote. WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING Designing, testing and commissioning automation projects on time and to specification Developing project schedules and providing realistic, technically grounded input to project planning Delivering technical solutions when problems arise Designing control panels, producing AutoCAD/ACAD layouts and electrical documentation PLC programming: primarily Allen-Bradley / Rockwell platforms including Studio 5000, ControlLogix and CompactLogix HMI tagging, configuration and commissioning Network design, component selection and device troubleshooting Building strong relationships with key suppliers and internal teams Developing new controls techniques, systems and technologies Mentoring and developing junior controls engineers WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR 5+ years of hands-on controls engineering experience in industrial automation AutoCAD or AutoCAD Electrical proficiency Material handling integration experience (conveyors, sortation, robotics or similar) Comfortable working independently across multiple projects simultaneously Strong communicator - both internally with project teams and externally with customers Willingness to travel approximately 30% for on-site installation, commissioning and debug THE PACKAGE Competitive compensation based on experience.
