LPN - Orthopedics (Inpatient)

Overview When the unit is full, an LPN will work with RNs with the highest acuity or be paired with an RN who has a heavy patient load. When the UNL has patients, the LPN will be paired with the UNL to assist with the unit’s patient load. LPN tasks may include oral medications, IV piggyback medications, trach care, dressing changes, and documentation on assessments and care plans after the RN has completed the initial assessment and initiated the care plan. Qualifications Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license issued by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR). Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) within 30 days of hire. College diploma required (Licensed Practical Nurse). Work experience as an LPN is required. Responsibilities Pass all medications and hang IV piggyback medications and fluids, excluding IV push medications. Chart assessments on assigned patients after the initial assessment has been charted by an RN. Chart care plans that have been opened by an RN; assist the RN in opening new care plans as needed. Communicate with physicians and advanced practice providers to receive orders and coordinate patient care. Perform dressing changes as needed. Perform tracheostomy care as needed. Insert and care for nasogastric tubes and provide feedings through the tube. Care for and change ostomy devices. Reinforce patient education and discharge instructions. When applicable, complete annual education required for compliance with the DNV Hip and Knee Replacement Program. Compensation The compensation range for this position is $25.73 per hour – $41.87 per hour. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked, and compensation model.
