Meat Manager

Job Summary We are hiring a Meat Manager to direct and supervise all functions and activities of the Meat department team to achieve sales and profit goals while maintaining a positive team‑oriented environment. Location: Store Location (On‑site reports to Store Director). Employment type: Regular, Full‑Time, Non‑Exempt. Travel required: No. Essential Functions Team member scheduling according to department business needs and labor objectives. Oversee merchandising plans based on product movement, consumer demand, and profitability. Stock and face refrigerated cases and display shelves at all times to ensure maximum sales, quality, and freshness. Maintain quality of meat cuts, ensuring proper trimming and attractive presentation, and ensure product pricing accurately accounts for tare weights and shrink. Inspect packaged products for freshness and visual appeal and pull products for re‑wrapping as required. Rotate perishable merchandise in accordance with store policy and product code, removing out‑of‑code items from the sales floor. Order merchandise and maintain inventory control to minimize out‑of‑stock items and shrink management. Follow approved procedures for receiving products, pricing, and restocking cases to ensure quality protection, accuracy, and product rotation. Verify received products to ensure items listed on vendor invoices are delivered as quality products with accurate counts and weights. Oversee department training processes to ensure all company policies are followed and standards met. Sharpen knives and adjust cutting equipment. Maintain general housekeeping and sanitation standards; comply with state and county government weights and measures laws. Ensure the department meets company customer service standards. Cut, debone, or grind pieces of meat; place fat trimmed off of meat in the proper location based on fat content. Prepare orders to customer specifications and weigh and wrap meat for display at the meat counter. Clean equipment and work areas to maintain health and sanitation standards; store meat in refrigerators or freezers at required temperatures; identify all primal portions and cuts produced; meet company standards on cut tests to minimize unnecessary shrink or loss. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Extensive knowledge of meat department management and sales strategies. Strong math skills for cutting tests, calculating tare weight allowances, profit margins, yields, ratios, percentages, and pricing breakdowns for carcass and boxed beef. Basic computer knowledge, including Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel. Knowledge of primal product cuts and retail stocking procedures and inventory management. Knowledge of health and safety regulations for food handling. Exceptional leadership, supervisory, and training skills. Excellent problem‑solving and organizational skills; effective verbal communication; time‑management. Ability to develop and implement strategies, handle complex operational issues, analyze and improve sales and profitability, resolve conflicts, ensure high quality and service standards, motivate and lead a team, attention to detail, adjust to changing situations, and make informed decisions quickly in high‑pressure environments. Physical ability to perform stocking, lifting up to 50 lb, repetitive motions, fine motor skills, maintain stamina and clear communication. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Over two years of Meat Manager experience required. Supervisory experience required. Three years of meat‑cutting experience in a retail environment preferred. Physical Requirements Stand and walk for extended periods (typical 8‑hour shift). Lift and carry items up to 25 lb frequently and up to 50 lb occasionally. Perform repetitive motions (reaching, bending, stooping, squatting, handling products). Perform tasks requiring fine motor skills. Work Conditions Shift varies; availability required on weekends, evenings, and holidays. Indoor, climate‑controlled environment with adequate lighting and ventilation; relatively damp or humid, possible wet or slippery floors. Constant interaction with customers and team members in fast‑paced retail environment. Pay Transparency The base pay range for this position is $27.00 – $46.50 per hour, subject to qualification, experience, internal equity and business need.
