Major Gifts Officer

Role Description The Major Gifts Officer is a full-time, on-site role based in Rutherford County, TN, responsible for managing a portfolio of major gift prospects and donors to advance Ascension's mission and strategic priorities. This role identifies, qualifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards individual, corporate, and foundation donors, developing personalized strategies and proposals to secure significant philanthropic support. The Major Gifts Officer partners closely with foundation leadership, clinical and operational leaders, and system colleagues to align donor interests with funding opportunities and campaigns. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting prospect research, scheduling and leading donor visits, preparing briefings and materials, maintaining accurate records in donor databases, and tracking progress toward fundraising goals. The role also supports events, presentations, and recognition activities that deepen donor engagement and foster long-term relationships. Qualifications Demonstrated experience in major gift fundraising, donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, preferably within healthcare or a mission-driven nonprofit setting. Strong relationship-building, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with donors, executives, clinicians, and community partners. Proficiency in prospect research, portfolio management, and use of donor databases or CRM systems to track activity and outcomes. Skilled in persuasive writing, including donor proposals, impact reports, briefing documents, and professional correspondence. Ability to plan and execute donor meetings and small events, including preparation of materials, talking points, and follow-up strategies. Proven organizational and project management skills, including managing multiple priorities, meeting deadlines, and working both independently and collaboratively. Understanding of philanthropic best practices, ethics in fundraising, and confidentiality requirements.
