Music Teacher

Music Teacher Richmond County Schools, Rockingham Middle School, Rockingham, North Carolina Job Description Under the supervision of the Principal, the Music Teacher is responsible for teaching music education to pupils in grades K‑12 and assisting school staff in improving music instruction. The teacher helps pupils grow in enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through singing, playing instruments, moving to music, and listening. Duties Teaches skills in music understanding, appreciation, harmony, exploration of music, and choral music to high school pupils. Plans and executes a balanced music program, organizing class time so that preparation, rehearsal, and instruction are accomplished within allotted time. Provides individual and small‑group instruction, adapting the curriculum to each pupil’s needs and encouraging development of musical skills. Utilizes repertoire from all music literature, including traditional and contemporary pieces appropriate for the ages and skill levels. Maintains care of school‑owned instruments and equipment, preventing loss or abuse, and performs minor maintenance or repair requests. Evaluates each pupil’s musical growth, performance, and understanding. Assesses each individual’s contribution to group performances. Selects appropriate music, books, and instructional aids; requisitions instruments and supplies as necessary. Cooperates with the Principal and staff to provide musical programs for assemblies, open houses, parent meetings, and seasonal events. Communicates with parents and school staff on individual students’ progress. Maintains daily contact with students, teachers, and staff; regular or occasional contact with parents, community members, and external agencies. Qualifications Job‑related experience is required. Must have a Bachelor’s or foreign equivalent degree. Must hold or be qualified to hold a North Carolina teaching license in Music Education (grades K‑12). Must maintain licensure and complete continuing education units. Position Type Full‑time Salary $41,000 Per Year Other Requirements Employment requires an extensive background check.
