CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR (WATER)

The Construction Inspector for Water and Water Treatment is responsible for inspecting and documenting construction activities on water, wastewater, and water treatment infrastructure projects to ensure compliance with approved plans, technical specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. This role provides field oversight, supports quality assurance, and serves as a liaison among engineering staff, contractors, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Conduct daily field inspections of water distribution systems, wastewater pipelines, pump stations, treatment plants, and related infrastructure to verify work is completed according to plans, specifications, permits, and accepted construction practices. Review construction plans, shop drawings, submittals, and requests for information to ensure clarity, compliance, and constructability; identify deviations and recommend corrective actions. Monitor contractor activities, workmanship, materials, and safety practices; enforce safety measures and report violations. Document inspection results through daily reports, photographs, test results, field measurement records, and “as-built” drawing verification. Witness and document required field and materials testing (e.g., chlorination, backfill compaction, pressure tests, soil sampling) where applicable. Coordinate with engineering staff, contractors, utilities, and regulatory personnel to resolve construction issues and maintain project progress. Attend project meetings (pre-construction, weekly progress, safety meetings) and provide field insights on issues and schedule impacts. Maintain accurate daily dairies, quality tracking, inspection logs, and project correspondence Verify and validate contractor pay qualities for progress payments when required. Perform materials inspection and acceptance prior to installation Identify potential problems and notify the contractor and project engineer of any potential problems Keep project engineer and supervisor abreast of progress throughout duration of assigned projects Responsible for job specific quality system tasks as defined in quality manual Compose, submit and log weekly status reports, weekly percentage completion reports, and daily reports to include: project conditions (i.e. trade manpower and work description), architectural and engineering communication and direction, general conditions, temperatures, weather conditions, general conditions and activities, site work, subcontractors and personnel, hours worked, description of work performed, equipment used, verbal discussions and oral instructions, phone conversations, visitors to site, job requirements, photos, videos, delays Provide daily photos of entire job site construction progress. When necessary, provide photos to verify pre-construction existing building and site conditions Post addendums to plans and specifications Maintain as-built drawings for the duration of the project Maintain satisfactory compliance with specifications and standards and maintain accurate records Perform other duties as required Required Skills KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: This is a partial listing of necessary knowledges, skills, and abilities required to perform the job successfully. It is not an exhaustive list: Thorough knowledge of construction practices, techniques, materials and related equipment Thorough knowledge of engineering plans, specifications, and drawings Proficient written and verbal communication skills needed for submitting extensive written reports and documentation; construction reports and logs are written and filed daily Must be able to read and interpret plans and specifications and to compare them with various aspects of construction in progress, to detect errors in construction projects, establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors, property owners and associates Must be able to perform specific installation tasks and field measurements Must have basic mathematical skills to assist with measurements and computations of installedquantities Must be able to interpret and implement company mandated safety policies Must have an ability to operate a level and have an understanding of cut and fills and elevations for grades Must be able to operate a computer and computer software related to word processing and spreadsheets Required Experience MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education and Experience High school diploma/General Equivalency Diploma (GED) 2 to 5 years of construction inspection or relevant field experience, especially in water, wastewater, or utility infrastructure projects.

LICENSURES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND REGISTRATIONS:

NICET, ACI, ICC certifications required or must be able to obtain certifications within 6 months of hire Valid Georgia Driver’s License required and maintained a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) that meets company policy standards

Frequently required to stand up to eight hours or more at a time Required to walk in rugged conditions Use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear Occasionally required to walk; sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 125 pounds Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
