Production Technician

Production TechnicianPIC, a Genus PLC company, has an exciting opportunity. We are looking for a Production Technician who is responsible for specialized animal care and technical reporting, along with additional husbandry tasks to ensure the well-being of the animals.The successful candidate has the ability to work in a culturally diverse, fast-paced environment as well as analyze and solve problems in an independent work environment. The candidate can work autonomously as well as collaboratively across functional teams and possesses strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. The position also includes assisting with routine laboratory and general tasks to ensure agreed-upon goals are met, including sanitation, standard operating procedures, and data recording.The position is based at the Bluegrass GTC facility in Adolphus, Kentucky. Pay range for this role is $18.59 - $23.63. Starting pay is $19.25.You WillPerform daily animal husbandry tasks in support of breeding and scientific research including:Pig placementPig healthcare and medication, including basic veterinary proceduresFeeding managementEnvironment, water, and ventilation managementCollection of blood samplesProduction records keepingMaintain accurate and timely production information and records, as requiredWork as a team player by accomplishing daily department work requirements and lab/farm goalsAssist in moving animals and maintaining efficient animal flowsTreat sick animals with a variety of pharmaceuticals by injection, oral application, and/or other methods as requiredMaintain facility biosecurity, including sanitizing and washing multiple areas using high pressure equipment, as well as office cleanliness and laundry duties to avoid contamination or animals and research samplesAssist with maintaining lab, office cleanliness, and laundry dutiesPerform semen evaluation on raw semen using a computer assisted evaluation programOperate packaging machines including accurate data entry for dose label information and being able to lift and move the pools of semen which way up to 40 poundsPackage product for shipment to customersUse a computer assisted evaluation program to check motility of samples from each batch producedBe flexible, with a willingness to change plans according to the direction of farm leadershipAdhere to the Company's animal care policies and procedures including: providing a physical environment that meets the animal's needs, providing access to adequate water and high quality feed, providing humane treatment of the animals, providing identification and appropriate treatment of animals in need of health care and following the guidelines for euthanasiaRead and understand the company's emergency notification process and how it applies to their specific worksiteAbide by all company policies, procedures and guidelines as directed by farm leadership, including but not limited to:The Company's Safety Program, understanding all safety requirements of the job and performing the job in compliance with those safety requirementsThe Company's bio-security protocolsAll environmental laws and procedures as well as report all environmental issues immediately to supervisorWork as a team player by accomplishing daily department work requirements and farm goalsRequirementsPrevious livestock handling, preferredAbility to work both autonomously and within a team environmentAbility to follow instructions and deal with standardized situationsAbility to work in and maintain performance expectations in a fast-paced environmentWork requires attention to detail and ability to meet deadlinesMinimal, if any travelHigh school diploma or equivalentUniversity degree, animal science field2 years of experience within intensive swine production systemsBusiness OverviewGenus strives to provide beef, dairy and pork producers with superior breeding stock to enable the production of affordable and nutritious animal protein for consumers.
