QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires knowledge of the provisions of the California Motor Vehicle Code and the Education Code as it applies to operating vehicles and transporting students; basic first aid practices, procedures, techniques and safe driving practices. Must possess the skill to read and write at a level necessary to perform the required duties; understand and carry out oral and written instructions in an independent manner; establish and maintain proper student conduct on school vehicle; drive a school bus safely and efficiently; to exercise good judgment and extreme caution while driving; maintain valid certification as school bus driver according to State regulations; establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties. Must have the ability to drive a school transportation vehicle with a prescribed route(s) in accordance with time schedules; picking up and discharging students at designated stops; escort and assist students on and off vehicle an across streets when necessary; transport students and teachers on field trips to various locations; planning necessary route(s) and stops as needed; maintain order and proper discipline of student passengers according to District policy; conduct safety and operational inspection of assigned vehicle daily; service buses with gas and oil; check and fill tires and batteries; evacuate vehicle in safe and timely manner when necessary and conduct periodic drills for same as required by law; complete necessary reports upon request; maintain cleanliness of vehicle to ensure safe operating condition; check out and report needed mechanical repairs when necessary; complete periodic mileage reports and time sheets; attend driver training program to maintain current knowledge of California Motor Vehicle Code and Education Code as it applies to the operation of vehicles in transporting of school children; may perform custodial and grounds keeping duties during non-driving time.
MUST POSSESS AND MAINTAIN A VALID CALIFORNIA DRIVER'S LICENSE AND MUST POSSESS OR BE ABLE TO OBTAIN A SCHOOL BUS DRIVER'S CERTIFICATE. DRIVING RECORDS MUST BE IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE RESTRICTIONS SET FORTH BY THE CALIFORNIA VEHICLE CODE. MUST SUBMIT A RECENT DMV (3 YEAR MINIMUM) DRIVING RECORD WITH APPLICATION . EXPERIENCE: One year of experience as a bus driver or truck driver. A CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECK AND PRE-EMPLOYMENT MEDICAL ASSESSMENT WILL BE REQUIRED OF THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT. DUTIES OF POSITION: Transport students to and from school within a designated route(s) and to ensure the safety of the students while passengers in the school vehicle. Employees in this classification receive general supervision from the Transportation Supervisor or school site administrator within a well-defined framework of standard policies and procedures. This job class is responsible for the safe operation of a school bus. Ensuring the safety of student passengers while meeting established bus schedule. STARTING SALARY: $4,192.80 (monthly) NUMBER OF MONTHS: 12 (to begin as soon as possible) NUMBER OF HOURS: 8 (daily working hours 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.) (Split shift) 8am to 12 pm / 1:30 pm to 5:30 pm)
