Staff Attorney – Investigations (Intake) Location: Washington, D.C. (Hybrid – 3 days on-site) Salary Range: $110,o00 – $135,000 Position Summary The Brandeis Center is seeking a Staff Attorney to join its Investigations & Intake team in Washington, DC. This attorney will play a critical role in evaluating potential matters, conducting factual investigations, interviewing complainants and witnesses, developing legal strategies, and helping build cases that advance the Brandeis Center’s mission. Working closely with senior attorneys and reporting to the Director of Legal Investigations, the Staff Attorney will manage a diverse intake and investigative caseload involving allegations of anti-semitism and unlawful discrimination. This position is ideal for an attorney with strong litigation instincts, exceptional judgment, and a passion for civil rights advocacy. Key Responsibilities Conduct intake interviews with prospective clients, complainants, and witnesses. Evaluate potential legal claims and make recommendations regarding case development and strategy. Investigate factual allegations by gathering and analyzing documents, records, and other evidence. Conduct legal research on federal and state civil rights laws and administrative regulations. Draft legal memoranda, demand letters, administrative complaints, and other legal documents. Assist in developing matters before federal and state agencies and in state and federal courts. Maintain regular communication with complainants, witnesses, and outside counsel. Track investigations, maintain case files, and ensure deadlines are met. Collaborate with litigation, policy, and legal initiatives teams on matters requiring cross-functional support. Support educational presentations, trainings, and other public-facing initiatives as needed. Perform other duties consistent with the mission of the Brandeis Center. Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess: J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school. 2-5+ years of experience as an attorney Active membership in good standing with at least one state bar. Three to five years of litigation, investigations, government enforcement, civil rights, employment, or comparable legal experience. Excellent legal research, analytical, and writing skills. Strong interviewing and investigative abilities. Sound judgment and the ability to assess complex factual and legal issues. Outstanding organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work compassionately with complainants and witnesses. A demonstrated commitment to civil rights and enthusiasm for the Brandeis Center’s mission. Experience handling matters before agencies such as the U.S. Department of Education O1ice for Civil Rights (OCR), the EEOC, or comparable federal or state agencies is a plus.
