Sheet Metal Mechanic - Newport News, VA

Compensation: $32/hr + $140/day Per Diem

Job Summary

Seeking experienced Sheet Metal Mechanics for shipyard work in Newport News, VA. Responsibilities include installing and fabricating foundations, ventilation systems, bulkheads, shipboard furniture, and other structural components while working from blueprints and technical drawings.

Key Responsibilities

• Install ventilation, bulkheads, foundations, and shipboard furniture

• Fabricate, assemble, and fit sheet metal components

• Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and weld symbols

• Lay out piece parts and verify measurements accurately

• Operate hand tools, drills, grinders, rivet guns, press brakes, and drill presses

• Follow OSHA and shipyard safety standards

• Work aboard Navy vessels and in fabrication shop environments

Qualifications

• 3+ years of sheet metal experience

• Ability to read blueprints and fabrication drawings

• Strong measuring and layout skills

• Experience with fabrication, assembly, and installation

• Shipyard or industrial experience preferred

• Must be able to work any shift

This is a Contract position based out of Newport News, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $32.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
