If you're looking for a dynamic and purpose-driven environment, we invite you to explore the opportunity to contribute to our mission.Job Summary Under the direction and supervision of the Nurse Manager/Clinic Manager or Administrator or MA Supervisor, the Medical Assistant (MA) will provide assistance to the clinician, mid-level clinician, clinic nurse(s), and patients. The MA provides basic clinical procedures to non-acutely ill patients, assists in maintaining supplies, provide quality patient care, ensure safe and clean patient care area, and perform other clinical duties and procedures prior to the clinician's visit with the patient while assuring positive care outcomes. Supervisory Responsibilities: None Essential Duties/ResponsibilitiesConsistently project a professional and courteous demeanor, help establish and maintain the highest service standards for the medical clinic and comply with DAP Health's policies and proceduresDemonstrate willingness to assist co-workers whenever needed. Maintain good working relationships with all clinic personnel.Provide compassionate quality care to the patients of DAP Health, within the scope of practice outlined by state or federal lawDeliver care in accordance with established standard of care and accepted community standardsUnderstand the organization's commitment to provide high quality patient care and promote a patient centered environmentMedical Assistants are responsible for knowing their scope of practicePrepare charts, perform pre-visit planning, and participate in daily care team huddleObtain consents from patients for minor proceduresEnsure patient safetyReceive patients, takes and records chief complaint and prepares patient for examination; records blood pressure, pulse, respirations, pulse oximetry, height and weightPrepare patients for examinations or procedures including positioning, draping, shaving and disinfecting treatment sitesAssist the provider in the collection of specimens such as pap smears and throat culturesExplain to the patient the procedures followed in an examination, a diagnostic test or treatment at the request of clinic personnelCollect specimens, take EKGs, collect blood samples as requested by clinic personnel; assist the physician with examination, treatments, minor surgery, dressing changes and splintingPerform simple laboratory procedures such as blood sugars and urine dipsReview patients record forms for accuracy and completionSterilize instruments and assume maintenance of diagnostic and therapeutic equipment.Dispose of contaminated, disposable, and outdated items per protocolPerform necessary vision screening and operates the oximeter, audiometer, nebulizer, and spirometer as directedAssist with the patient flow during clinic hoursPrepare and replenish supplies in the treatment room and exam rooms; maintain exam rooms in an orderly and constant state of readiness for incoming patientsCheck equipment to ensure proper functioningAdminister medications orally, topically, vaginally, rectally, subcutaneously, intramuscularly, intradermalDemonstrate an understanding of and adhere to safety and infection control policies and proceduresDemonstrate an understanding of and adheres to privacy, confidentiality, and security policies and procedures related to Protected Health Information (PHI) or other sensitive and personal informationShow sensitivity to differences in culture; demonstrate a positive and supportive manner in which patients/families/colleagues perceive interactions as positive and supportiveMaintain positive working relationship with all DAP Health Medical Clinic staff to ensure the continuity of care to all patientsComplete all paperwork in a timely and efficient mannerAccess patient-protected health information as requiredRequest and retrieve client files as neededRoute documents as required in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) SystemAnswer telephones and relays messages accurately and expeditiouslyInterface effectively in a team environment with agency staff and volunteersHandle crisis and stressful situations in an effective, calm, and respectful mannerPerform other duties as assignedNew Hire BonusWe are pleased to offer a new hire bonus of $1,000 for this position.QualificationsRequired Skills/AbilitiesExcellent communication skills – both verbal and writtenExcellent customer service skillsProficient in the utilization of an electronic medical record system preferredProficient in Microsoft Office Suite preferredBilingual/bicultural (Spanish) preferredEducation and ExperienceMedical assistant certificate or signed training on venipuncture, infectious control, patient privacy, basic anatomy and physiology by Registered Nurse or PhysicianOne year's work experience Medical Assistant in a medical office preferredGraduation from an approved Medical Assistant programCurrent BLS certification obtained through the American Heart Association or American Red CrossNational or CA Medical Assistant Certification, preferredExperience with the EPIC EHR system preferredWorking Conditions/Physical RequirementsThis position is on-site at a DAP Clinic LocationAbility to lift 24 poundsOperates in a clinical setting at times and requires frequent times of sitting, standing, walking, repetitive motion and talkingAvailable for all shifts and, when required, able to work evenings and weekendsRequires current and valid driver's license and current personal auto insurance as well as reliable transportationAble to travel to DAP Health locations throughout San Diego and the Coachella Valley to provide staffing support and off-site trainings/meetingsInvolves contact with patients or patient specimens. Exposure to blood, body fluids, and non-intact skin or tissue specimens is requiredHandling of biohazardous materials required
