We are looking for dedicated Respiratory Care Practitioners to join our Respiratory Department, part of our nationally‑ranked pediatric enterprise. Kids Are Our Everything. Position Details Department: Respiratory Therapy Pay Range: $40.61‑$83.75 Sign‑on Bonus: RCP II – $25,000; RCP III – $30,000 Shift: Nights About the Role Under the general direction of the department manager, the Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP‑II) administers all levels of respiratory care for patients with cardiopulmonary dysfunction or disabilities. The role is performed in acute care, ER, ICU (PICU/NICU) and CICU Level III, and requires competency in all aspects of acute care, ER, and ICU delivery. Minimum Education Associate’s Degree with completion of at least two years of college training in an AMA‑approved Respiratory Care Program (Required). Minimum Work Experience Level II—3 years of experience (Required) and 1 year in a pediatric or adult critical‑care setting (Required). Level III—5 years of experience (Required) and 2 years in a pediatric and/or neonatal critical‑care setting (Required). Required Skills and Knowledge Active member of the American Association of Respiratory Care. Demonstrated competency in acute care, ER, and ICU delivery within 90 days. Administers general respiratory therapy procedures, including humidity and aerosol therapy, lung inflation maneuvers, pulmonary secretion clearance, CPAP, BiPAP, and high‑flow therapy. Intermediate mechanical ventilator‑management skills; familiar with nitric oxide, heliox, and HFOV. Performs CPR when indicated. Performs invasive and non‑invasive monitoring and diagnostic procedures as required. Works independently in ER, acute care, PICU, and/or NICU (minimum 10 shifts per year in each area). Maintains sustained proficiency via departmental rotation schedule. Adheres to Respiratory Care Services policies and Children’s National Health System procedures. Organizes priorities and communicates effectively, both orally and in writing. Provides patient‑centered care in stressful situations using sound clinical judgment. Performs mathematical calculations and maintains required continuing‑education credits (BLS, PALS, FIT tests, annual skill reviews, in‑services, etc.). Physical ability to perform all treatment modalities, lift up to 50 lbs, and stand/walk for long periods. Basic computer skills. Credentials and proficiency are assessed annually to maintain RCP‑II and RCP‑III status. Required Licenses and Certifications Registered Respiratory Therapist (Required). RCP license from the District of Columbia DOH Health Regulation and Licensing Administration (Required). Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS) (Required). Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) (Required). Functional Accountabilities Patient Care—perform all patient care procedures per department standards. Documentation—ensure thorough, complete written documentation and data entry. Participation—attend a minimum of four department meetings annually; identify opportunities to improve clinical and administrative processes. The disclosed salary range includes the minimum and maximum rates within which Children’s National believes an individual’s base pay rate will fall for this position. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the maximum of the pay range.
