Assistant State Signal & Lighting Engineer

Overview Assistant State Signal & Lighting Engineer | Salary Range: $42.16 - $64.20 / hourly; $88,030 - $134,050 / annually The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) Office of Traffic Engineering is a national leader in traffic safety and efficiency. This position provides specialized guidance to statewide traffic electrical systems design and operations for traffic control signals and to support roadway lighting; to review, coordinate and develop uniform statewide policies, procedures, and standards for signal and lighting design and operation. Responsibilities Direct the development and participate in the review and coordination of uniform statewide policies, procedures, and standards for signal design and operation. Coordinate with Metro District and Greater Minnesota Districts on signal operations and signal shared services. Represent interests of non-Metro districts in signal design and operation decisions. Provide technical support for traffic electrical systems training programs. Coordinate and manage the evaluation of new products and methods for traffic electrical designs and operation. Managing and working on traffic signal related projects. Act as technical liaison for miscellaneous research and implementation projects. Provide engineering assistance to MnDOT’s Connected and Automated Vehicle Program with a focus on traffic signal control devices. Exercise supervisory authority so that applicable labor agreements and plans are equitably administered, and employees will effectively perform assigned job duties to achieve the annual objectives of the section. Minimum Qualifications NOTE: To facilitate proper crediting, please ensure that your resume clearly describes your experience in the areas listed and indicates the beginning and ending month and year for each job held. Licensure as a professional engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience and Interior Design (AELSLAGID). If obtaining licensure through comity (reciprocity), a temporary permit from AELSLAGID must be provided to MnDOT HR prior to starting employment. AND Three years of experience as an Engineer Senior or equivalent that demonstrates the following: Experience in, and high-level application of the principles and practices of traffic signal design and operation. Knowledge and application of the National Electrical Code and general electrical principles. Experience providing technical guidance and support to others. Experience reviewing technical information and arriving at solutions to problems.
