Case Manager

$70.43 - $112 per hour

Summary Under the supervision of attorneys, the Case Manager manages a range of substantive and complex cases, matters, or entity‑related duties. This individual prepares drafts of legal and other documents and correspondence for attorney review, compiles, analyzes, and summarizes information, and coordinates efforts between attorneys, clients, outside legal counsel, opposing legal counsel, other parties, and outside vendors. Responsibilities Develop a deep knowledge of cases/matters both factually and procedurally to ensure that systems/operations are designed to properly track cases/matters. Leverage knowledge to streamline the execution of various tasks and create efficiencies. Consider staffing, training, and outside vendor needs and coordinate with DLA and other firms to produce high‑quality work efficiently, without duplication, and within budget parameters. Develop and manage budgets for cases and matters and the overall client relationship within DLA parameters. Supervise the development, management, coordination, and upkeep of all electronic tools to manage cases/matters and client relationships internally and with outside counsel and vendors. Manage and train case assistants, paralegals, attorneys, delegating and supervising projects directed toward them and serving as the hub for all case/matter and client‑related activities. Act as mentor and SME to associates and paralegals and develop trainings for team members and business professionals in their respective practice groups. Interact extensively with clients on a one‑to‑one basis; often the point of contact for the client. Demonstrate superior proficiencies with all software applications specific to the practice group. Demonstrate “good firm citizen” characteristics. Desired Skills Four plus years' experience with the firm, with hands‑on experience to provide critical support to attorneys in the practice groups. Experience relating to clients, co‑counsel, opposing counsel, etc. Extensive experience in setting up and running technical systems to manage cases/matters. Strong team‑leader with interpersonal skills to interact with business professionals, paralegals, attorneys, and clients. Encourages connection, collaboration, and collective ownership. Proven ability to work on cross‑functional teams across multiple jurisdictions and time zones. Superior verbal and written skills. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to manage large volumes of work per case/matter. Strong analytical skills to manage budgets and resources. Highly advanced technical skills necessary to set up, track and maintain cases/matters. Initiative, independence, and appreciation for the business operations side of the firm. Commitment to the firm’s business objectives and motivation to help attain them. Minimum Education Bachelor’s Degree in paralegal studies, legal studies, or related field. Certificates: For California Paralegals, must meet the California Paralegal Requirements. Minimum Years of Experience 10+ years as a Paralegal in a specific practice group. Essential Job Expectations Effectively communicate verbally and in writing with clients, lawyers, business professionals, and third parties. Produce deliverables, answer phone calls, and reply to correspondence efficiently and responsively. Provide timely, accurate and quality work product to meet deadlines and expectations. Foster positive work relationships. Comply with all firm policies and practices. Engage in both physical and sedentary activity such as prolonged computer use, virtual conference calls, and meetings. Work under pressure and manage competing demands in a fast‑paced environment. Perform all other duties, tasks or projects as assigned. Physical Demands Sedentary work: may require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling up to 10 pounds occasionally or negligible force frequently or constantly. Mostly sitting, with occasional walking and standing. Work Environment Hybrid arrangement comprising remote and in‑office work, determined in coordination with the hiring manager. Compensation Expected hiring range: $70.43 - $112.00 per hour, dependent on geographic location and experience. Benefits Comprehensive package of medical, dental, vision insurance, and 401(k).
