VP of Operations

Purpose of Job The Vice President of Operations is responsible for the strategic, operational, and financial performance of assigned clinical, ancillary, and support services across the organization. This position ensures the delivery of high-quality, safe, efficient, and patient-centered care while advancing organizational goals related to access, growth, quality, financial performance, workforce engagement, and operational excellence. Reporting to the Chief Clinical Officer, the Vice President serves as a key enterprise operational leader and partners closely with physician, nursing, administrative, and support leaders to ensure effective coordination, integration, and performance of services across the continuum of care. The Vice President is accountable for the overall performance of assigned departments, programs, facilities, and service areas, as determined by organizational needs and priorities. Job Functions Strategic Leadership and Growth Develop and implement operational strategies that support the organization's mission, vision, values, and strategic plan while enhancing market position, access, and continuity of care. Translate organizational priorities into actionable goals, performance expectations, and measurable outcomes for assigned areas. Identify opportunities to enhance service delivery, operational effectiveness, patient safety, and patient experience. Develop and execute growth and service strategies that support organizational objectives. Support the planning, development, and implementation of new services, programs, facilities, and care delivery models. Partner with clinical and operational leaders to optimize care coordination, referral pathways, capacity, and network utilization. Access, Capacity, and Service Performance Lead organizational efforts to improve timely access, capacity, patient flow, and continuity across assigned services. Establish and monitor key performance measures, including access, throughput, capacity utilization, referral completion, care transitions, and resource deployment. Partner with clinical leaders to optimize scheduling, staffing, workflows, and service capacity. Develop strategies to reduce barriers to care, improve patient retention, and strengthen coordination across care settings. Monitor service performance and implement action plans to achieve organizational goals. Operational Excellence Provide operational oversight for assigned departments, programs, facilities, and service areas. Establish performance expectations and accountability measures for operational, financial, quality, safety, workforce, and patient experience outcomes. Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on workflow optimization, access, throughput, productivity, and service excellence. Ensure appropriate standardization of operational practices while supporting the needs of different services and care settings. Monitor and improve key performance indicators, including access, throughput, patient experience, workforce productivity, quality, safety, and financial performance. Physician and Provider Partnership Build strong collaborative relationships with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing leaders, and other clinical leaders. Partner with clinical leaders to improve operational performance, patient outcomes, and care delivery models. Support provider and clinical workforce recruitment, onboarding, retention, and engagement efforts. Facilitate alignment between organizational priorities, operational goals, and clinical practice needs. Collaborate with clinical leadership to support productivity, engagement, and satisfaction. Partner with Human Resources, Finance, and clinical leadership to develop and evaluate compensation and incentive approaches that support organizational strategy, market competitiveness, quality, access, productivity, and patient experience. Financial Management Develop and manage operating and capital budgets for assigned areas. Ensure responsible stewardship of organizational resources while maintaining high-quality patient care and effective service delivery. Identify opportunities to strengthen revenue, improve resource utilization, and reduce the total cost of care. Monitor financial performance and implement corrective actions as necessary to achieve budget and productivity targets. Quality, Safety, and Patient Experience Promote a culture of quality, safety, accountability, and service excellence. Partner with clinical, quality, and operational leaders to achieve organizational quality, safety, and patient experience goals. Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, accreditation, licensure, and organizational standards. Lead initiatives that improve access, care coordination, transitions of care, patient outcomes, and overall experience. Leadership and Team Development Recruit, develop, direct, and retain high-performing clinical, operational, and support leaders and teams. Provide coaching, mentorship, and performance management for direct reports. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, inclusion, and continuous improvement. Support leadership development, succession planning, workforce planning, and employee engagement initiatives. Collaboration and Organizational Leadership Serve as a collaborative member of the senior leadership team. Partner with clinical, operational, financial, human resources, information technology, and support service leaders. Participate in organizational committees, strategic initiatives, and leadership forums. Represent assigned areas in enterprise planning, decision-making, and change initiatives. Minimum Education/Work Experience Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Public Health, Nursing, or a related field. Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive healthcare leadership experience. Minimum of five (5) years of senior leadership experience overseeing complex clinical or healthcare operations. Demonstrated success leading multi-disciplinary, multi-site, or system-level healthcare operations. Strong financial, operational, and strategic planning expertise. Proven ability to build effective partnerships with physicians, nursing leaders, and other clinical and administrative leaders. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Ability to meet and maintain the necessary background checks as aligned with position functions. Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above'. Strong operational and financial management expertise. Strong strategic thinking, business acumen, and execution capabilities. Broad knowledge of healthcare operations, regulations, reimbursement models, and value-based care principles. Ability to analyze data and translate insights into operational action. Preferred Qualifications Experience within an integrated health system or similarly complex healthcare organization.
