This includes the management of chronic stable medical conditions, routine care, acute or critical care, and medical and specialty protocols (e.g., chemotherapy) as defined by standardized procedures or independently based on licensure. This may include non-invasive or invasive procedures, surgical procedures, including operative first assist per approved standardized procedures as identified by the list available on the Medical Staff Office. Patient management decisions are independent where appropriate after assessment of the patient and interdependent with consultation with an attending or other member of the team. NPs are expected to act as an expert resource person for health care providers including nurses, residents and other ancillary staff. #CA-LA Provides patient care in a team-based care environment to a diversified patient population. Applies knowledge, experience and judgment to determine the importance of a situation, set priorities, and use abstract thought to evaluate clinical situations. Participates in patient and staff education. Demonstrates leadership skills. Demonstrates accountability for own practices as defined by the Nurse Practice Act. Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position One (1) year of recent experience as a Nurse Practitioner in pain management specialty, adult inpatient hospital medicine, or inpatient surgical service Valid California Registered Nurse License without restriction California Nurse Practitioner Furnishing License California Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) without restriction Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Certificate within 3 months of hire American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR National NP board certification in aligned specialty with the practice area Graduation with a master's degree, DNP or PhD in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing Ability to cope with personal stress experienced by team members, other professionals, and caretakers Excellent verbal and written communication skills Judgement skills to effectively meet the needs of patients Self-direction and organizational skills to function in an independent role Ability to meet minimum standards for hospital credentialing and billing standards as a billable provider Key Responsibilities 90% - Clinical Practice 10% - Other Professional Activity Department Overview UC Davis Health is at the forefront of incorporating Advanced Practice Providers (APP) as part of interprofessional care teams to support increasing numbers of complex care patients. Department Specific Job Scope In collaboration with the attending physician and pharmacist, the nurse practitioner provides consultation for pain management of hospitalized patients. This includes, but is not limited to, patient evaluation, reviewing their medical history, and collaborating with the primary team to develop a therapy or treatment plan to help alleviate pain and suffering. The nurse practitioner also uses their knowledge and pain management skills to identify effective non-pharmacological and pharmacological treatment options. The nurse practitioner possesses a high level of independent clinical decision-making and be able to work autonomously and in a team-based environment to provide compassionate patient centered care.
