The Singles Mental Health Clinician provides behavioral health services to individuals experiencing homelessness who are staying at the Pamela Atkinson Resource Center (PARC). Working as part of a collaborative interdisciplinary team, this role delivers direct behavioral health services to a diverse population, including assessments, time-limited treatment, assertive engagement, and crisis intervention. The Clinician maintains a structured, weighted caseload that balances treatment-seeking individuals, non-seeking individuals in a pre-treatment phase, and protected time for crisis work. The Clinician supports individuals in addressing behavioral health concerns with the goal of achieving housing stability, increasing self-sufficiency, and improving overall quality of life.
Anticipated Weekly Time Allocation
Client-facing responsibilities are allocated across three main areas – clients seeking clinical support, clients that would likely benefit from clinical support but are in a pre-treatment stabilization space, and crisis intervention and management for program participants as needed. These targets are calibrated with periodic time studies and may be adjusted by the Clinical Director; singles clinicians are intentionally weighted toward assertive engagement of non-seeking clients and toward crisis response, reflecting the acuity and engagement demands of the singles population.
*This is an in-person position that requires travel between various resource centers and shelters.
*There may be flexibility for occasional remote work with work plan approval from the Clinical Director.
*Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Hold an established, weighted caseload that combines treatment-seeking and non-seeking clients, with protected time reserved for crisis work. Identify individuals in need of clinical support based on mental illness, cognitive impairment, substance use, and high utilization of shelter and community resources, collaborating with other teams to build and maintain the caseload.
Clients seeking services: Deliver a time-limited series of sessions focused on stabilization and assessment. Establish the transition-to-community-provider expectation in the initial session, so clients understand the clinician’s role is time-limited.
Complete warm handoffs to ongoing external providers, assisting clients with consent forms and referral paperwork, followed by a 30-day post-handoff check-in.
Clients not seeking services: Maintain non-seeking/service-averse clients on the caseload with documented, staged engagement goals, using assertive engagement and the LEAP approach (Listen, Empathize, Agree, Partner) to build trust with individuals who may have limited insight into their illness, and to move them toward treatment readiness and/or other appropriate outcomes as identified by the clinical and case management teams.
Maintain regular engagement with clients through weekly check-ins and ongoing supportive contact appropriate to each client’s lane and engagement stage.
Maintain protected weekly capacity for crisis intervention, de-escalation, and other crisis-driven services for all clients in shelter as needed, including facilitating debriefing conversations with staff and clients when appropriate.
Score and monitor client acuity using the department’s central Client Tracker and participate in monthly caseload reviews to track engagement-stage movement, rebalance load, and inform intake decisions.
Complete biopsychosocial assessments and additional mental health and substance use screeners to track client needs and progress.
Support clients in developing goals that help them overcome homelessness and stabilize in the community and assess each client’s barriers to self-sufficiency.
Assess the need for therapeutic groups and implement them as needed.
Maintain accurate records, therapy notes, and statistical data as required; participate in research and special projects as needed.
Attend mandatory agency trainings, including Trauma-Informed Care, Housing Focused, De-escalation, Suicide Prevention, CPR, and more.
Participate in emergency drills and environmental safety activities, as required.
Follow all agency protocols for security, safety, and sanitation to maintain a clean and secure environment for guests and staff.
Maintain regular and reliable attendance as an essential function of this position.
Additional Job Functions - Team Collaboration
Collaborate with members of leadership, case management, advocacy, and housing teams to support coordinated care and consistent lane assignment through the referral/intake workflow.
Manage and maintain partnerships with community behavioral health providers.
Lead the weekly staffing meeting for the case management team alongside the Supportive Services Manager.
Attend weekly staff meetings as assigned with internal and external teams, including security partners, law enforcement, and other community agencies, to provide clinical insight and advocate on behalf of clients.
Refer clients to community partners and coordinate long-term services for guests once they transition into permanent housing.
Assist in providing coaching opportunities and increasing awareness of mental and behavioral health barriers with other teams.
Lead trainings on clinical topics through the TRH Training Academy for new hires every other week as needed.
Join other team members to support clients in hospital settings, during incarceration, and in the community as needed.
Promoting Best Practice & Clinician Wellbeing
Actively engage with and honor the unique backgrounds, identities, and experiences of all individuals we serve.
Advance the agency’s commitment to honoring diverse ethnic and cultural heritages through daily actions that foster genuine belonging.
Implement Housing Focused principles, risk management strategies, and high-access services as foundational to our mission.
Maintain healthy boundaries using trauma-informed approaches in all interactions.
Participate in structured reflective supervision and peer consultation to sustain wellbeing given the sustained engagement demands and high crisis exposure of the singles population.
Engage with load-balancing practices — including caps on concurrent high-acuity cases — designed to protect clinician wellbeing and sustain quality of care.
*Other duties as assigned.
*Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening.
*Reasonable accommodations may be considered to enable all individuals to perform these essential functions, so please still apply.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Master's degree in a mental health discipline from an accredited university is required.
L.C.S.W. or equivalent licensure is preferred; clinical supervision will be provided for a C.S.W. working toward licensure.
Advanced knowledge and experience in the mental health and substance use treatment field is required.
Experience working with diverse and/or vulnerable populations, or with individuals experiencing homelessness is preferred.
Familiarity with assertive engagement approaches (e.g., LEAP — Listen, Empathize, Agree, Partner) and stepped-care or warm-handoff models is preferred.
SKILLS AND EXPECTATIONS
Act as a proactive and engaged member of a dynamic, cohesive team.
Perform duties with flexibility, openness, and empathy in all interactions.
Work independently and make sound, trauma-informed decisions in complex situations.
Demonstrate excellent organizational skills to manage a structured, weighted caseload, documentation, and multiple responsibilities.
Apply assertive engagement and LEAP techniques with non-seeking clients, and structure time-limited treatment with clear, warm handoffs for seeking clients.
Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients, families, and team members, especially during high-stress situations.
Demonstrate cultural humility and a deep respect for the diverse backgrounds and experiences of those served.
Build and maintain effective working relationships with community partners and external agencies.
Provide thoughtful and attentive customer service by handling difficult situations with professionalism, patience, and empathy.
Use basic computer programs (email, spreadsheets, and clinical tracking tools) and have strong computer skills.
Ability to accept supervision, direction, and feedback with openness.
PHYSICAL AND EQUPMENT REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to lift and move heavy items up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to sit, stand, and move for at least an hour at a time or more.
- Must be at least 21 years old, have a valid, unexpired driver’s license, and the ability to drive a vehicle, as needed.
