Position Summary

The Director of Respiratory Therapy leads and manages all respiratory care services within the SNF, ensuring high-quality patient care, regulatory compliance, and efficient departmental operations. This role collaborates closely with nursing, medical staff, and administration to support residents with acute and chronic cardiopulmonary conditions.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee daily respiratory therapy operations, including staffing, scheduling, and workflow optimization
  
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and facility regulations (CMS, OSHA, infection control standards)
  
• Develop, implement, and monitor respiratory care plans (oxygen therapy, ventilator support, aerosol treatments, trach care)
  
• Supervise, train, and evaluate respiratory therapy staff; lead hiring and performance management
  
• Collaborate with physicians, nursing leadership, and interdisciplinary teams on care planning and outcomes
  
• Maintain accurate documentation and ensure timely charting in EMR systems
  
• Manage department budget, equipment procurement, and maintenance
  
• Monitor quality indicators, reduce hospital readmissions, and lead performance improvement initiatives
  
• Ensure proper infection prevention and control practices are followed
  
• Provide education to staff, residents, and families on respiratory care
  

Qualifications

• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential required; state licensure required
  
• Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy or related field preferred
  
• 5+ years of respiratory therapy experience; 2+ years in a supervisory or leadership role preferred
  
• Experience in SNF, long-term care, or post-acute setting strongly preferred
  
• Strong knowledge of ventilator management, pulmonary rehabilitation, and chronic disease management (COPD, CHF, etc.)
  
• Familiarity with EMR systems and regulatory standards (CMS, Joint Commission a plus)
