Senior Scientist, Engineered Cell Therapy Discovery

$136.03k - $164.84k

Bristol-Myers Squibb

Position Summary We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Scientist to join the Engineered Cell Therapy Discovery team and help drive next‑generation CAR T and eTCR therapies for patients with cancer and other chronic diseases. The role involves independently managing project workstreams, designing and interpreting complex studies of engineered T cell biology, translating results into science‑driven decisions, and mentoring junior colleagues. The candidate will exercise independence and latitude in advancing projects, serve as a technical point of contact, and be a leader in multidisciplinary meetings. Responsibilities Apply advanced knowledge of T cell immunology (activation, signaling, differentiation, exhaustion, and immune‑regulation pathways) and antibody biology to characterize engineered CAR/eTCR T cells. Design, coordinate, and execute screening strategies and mechanistic studies to assess engineered T cell constructs and functional responses, leveraging automation where appropriate. Manage assigned project workstreams independently, proposing protocol modifications or new experimental designs based on literature and internal data. Interpret and synthesize complex datasets from flow cytometry, IncuCyte, MSD, high‑content imaging, and other assay platforms to identify biological trends and prioritize candidates. Lead discussions and present key findings in multidisciplinary meetings, ensuring clear communication and alignment with project goals. Act as a functional mentor to junior team members and serve as a technical point of contact within the team. Participate in the development of patent applications and publications, and may represent the department on program or sub‑team activities. Maintain rigorous electronic notebooks to support project milestones and regulatory filings. Work may require on‑site presence at a BMS facility, with hybrid options for qualified roles. Basic Qualifications Either a Bachelor’s Degree with 7+ years of academic and/or industry experience, a Master’s Degree with 5+ years, or a Ph.D./equivalent with 2+ years. Fundamental knowledge of T cell immunology and related disciplines. Proficiency in in‑vitro technologies for engineering and assessing T cells (viral transduction, gene editing, ELISA, IncuCyte, flow cytometry, imaging). Strong written and verbal communication skills for protocols, reports, and regulatory documents. Preferred Qualifications Deep expertise in T cell immunology, immuno‑oncology, or a related discipline with knowledge of adjacent fields (bioengineering, molecular biology). Experience with drug discovery/development processes and scientific/technical writing. Hands‑on experience with large/complex datasets (multiparametric flow, NGS) and analysis using JMP, R, or a programming language. Demonstrated ability to identify problems and develop independent solutions, with strong project‑management orientation and ability to handle multiple concurrent workstreams. Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills in a matrixed, cross‑functional environment. Proficiency in critical and probabilistic thinking to solve complex scientific problems. Compensation Seattle, WA – $136,030–$164,841 per year. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities may be available. Final compensation will be based on demonstrated experience and qualifications. Benefits Health coverage: medical, pharmacy, dental, and vision care. Well‑being programs: BMS Well‑Being Account, BMS Living Life Better, Employee Assistance Program. Financial well‑being: 401(k) plan, disability insurance, life insurance, supplemental health insurance, business‑travel protection, identity‑theft benefit. Paid time off: flexible time off, paid vacation, national holidays, volunteer days, summer hours flexibility, leave of absence for medical, personal, parental, caregiver, bereavement, and military needs. Global shutdown: annual global shutdown between Christmas and NewYear’s Day for all eligible global employees. Other benefits: performance bonus, stock options, and additional perks as outlined in the BMS benefits portal. Equal Employment Opportunity Statement BMS is an equal‑opportunity employer. We are committed to a diverse workforce and welcome applicants from all backgrounds to apply for this role. #J-18808-Ljbffr Bristol-Myers Squibb
