About the Role:

The Youth & Family Camp Counselor plays a pivotal role in creating a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for children and families attending camp programs. This position is responsible for facilitating a variety of recreational, educational, and social activities that promote personal growth, teamwork, and positive relationships among campers. The counselor serves as a mentor and role model, guiding youth through challenges and encouraging their development in a nurturing setting. They collaborate closely with other staff members to ensure the smooth operation of camp activities and uphold the camp’s values and safety standards. Ultimately, the counselor’s efforts contribute to memorable and impactful camp experiences that foster confidence, resilience, and community spirit among participants.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Previous experience working with children or families in a camp, educational, or recreational setting.
• Basic first aid and CPR certification or willingness to obtain prior to camp start.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to pass a background check and comply with camp safety policies.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in youth development, counseling, or social work.
• Training or certification in child development or related fields.
• Ability to lead specialized activities such as arts and crafts, outdoor education, or sports.
• Multilingual abilities to support diverse camper populations.
• Previous experience working in a residential camp environment.

Responsibilities:

• Supervise and engage with youth and family campers during daily activities, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
• Plan, lead, and facilitate a diverse range of recreational, educational, and team-building activities tailored to different age groups and family dynamics.
• Provide emotional support and guidance to campers, helping them navigate social interactions and personal challenges in a positive manner.
• Collaborate with fellow counselors and camp leadership to organize schedules, resolve conflicts, and maintain a clean and safe camp environment.
• Communicate effectively with campers, families, and staff to foster an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere that respects diverse backgrounds and needs.
