The role involves planning, scheduling, and processing paperwork, repairing orthotics equipment, and being on call after hours and weekends. The position may require training others and using independent judgment. Essential Job Functions Designs, manufactures, and modifies orthopedic equipment including welding, upholstery, and working with plastics. Planning, scheduling, and processing paperwork; repairs orthotics equipment. Provides on-call service when scheduled. Trains others as needed. Lifts 70 lbs. Manufactures customized, modified, and adaptive equipment. Measures individuals with disabilities using adaptive measuring devices. Conducts fitting of adaptive equipment. Participates in designing and preparing plans and specifications for custom and adaptive equipment. Assists in planning programs for the manufacture and preventive maintenance of modified and customized adaptive equipment or orthopedic devices. Coordinates production, maintenance, and repair programs. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of orthopedic equipment manufacture and maintenance work. Knowledge of materials used in fabrication of adaptive equipment, including welding, upholstery, and plastic working. Understanding of anatomical terminology. Knowledge in use of handheld and power tools for adaptive equipment manufacture. Ability to train and supervise others, prepare specifications, plan and organize time, and prepare concise reports. Ability to lift 70 pounds without assistance. Initial Screening Criteria Graduation from an accredited high school or GED, plus one year of work-related experience in the maintenance or modification of adaptive equipment or one year in welding construction and metal fabrication. Experience in upholstery work preferred. Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license or obtain it no later than 90 days after hire. Applicants with an out-of-state driver’s license must provide an original certified driving record.
