We are seeking an experienced, proactive Marketing & Business Development Manager to lead our global Sports, Media and Entertainment (SM&E) Sector.You will work closely with the global and local M&BD teams, along with the global Sector Heads, leadership team, and key lawyers to develop and execute a comprehensive marketing and business development strategy that drives client engagement, strengthens market positioning, and supports the long-term growth of the sector and its closely aligned practices.This is a hands-on role that will involve ensuring a coordinated, structured approach to marketing campaigns and profile raising, client development, pitching, and knowledge development across the global sector and relevant practice areas.We are looking for a candidate with the ability to see the bigger picture and proactively connect the dots across the global sector, relevant practices and client initiatives. The ability to develop a deep understanding of the sector and to thrive in a fast-paced, high-performance environment, and to collaborate and communicate well with partners, lawyers and colleagues alike in a manner that builds trust and confidence is also paramount.Flexibility is key in managing the competing demands from the various stakeholders, but in return you will get to demonstrate your skills across the full marketing and business development mix.LeadershipAct as the M&BD lead expert for the global SM&E teamLead and support the development of the yearly business plan and ensure implementation that supports the global SM&E sector strategy, aligning with firm objectives and strengthening our market position in this sectorManage a global team, providing guidance, training, and professional developmentMarketing Campaigns, Profile Raising, and Thought LeadershipPlan, create, and manage the implementation of marketing communications, including seminars and client events, CLE trainings, client facing materials, external conference attendance, and web and social media contentLead on directory and award submissions for relevant rankings and publicationsSupport input coordination for sector specific thought leadership publicationsCollaborate with the PR team to implement profile-raising strategies for the sector and individual partnersEvents and SponsorshipsConceptualize and support client seminars, webinars, and other marketing events, managing materials, supporting vendor selection, developing client communications, and handling day-of logistics and follow-up reportingEvaluate, coordinate, and execute sponsorships, as well as negotiate agreements and manage participation in sponsorships, to ensure that the firm maximizes return on its investmentFoster relationships with industry associations, leveraging sponsorships to drive client engagementWork with the sector heads, and leadership team to plan internal meetings, retreats, and meetings that target education about the sectorBusiness and Client DevelopmentSupport the team on the portfolio of clients within the sector, including monitoring and analyzing client financial performance and internal review meetingsConduct client feedback and support as client account manager for key clientsPitching, Targeting, and New Business GenerationsLead pitch strategy for the sector, aligning with the sales transformation plan and global pitch coordination.Develop, manage, and support responses to RFPs, pitches, and proposals tailored to client needs.Create and maintain a suite of standard targeting materials, including credentials documentsInternal Communications and Knowledge SharingSupport sector working groups efforts as M&BD lead and share best practices and processes across the global sector teamMaintain key M&BD resources including on the global intranet and hoganlovells.com, team lists, and master credentials documentsSupport M&BD leadership to promote our capabilities across the firm, including through global retreats, internal newsletters, conference calls, meetings, and the intranetWider M&BD ProjectsManage and contribute to broader M&BD projects and assignments, as appropriate.All members of the firm are expected and encouraged to participate in our global Responsible Business programSpecific duties or responsibilities may be reviewed from time to time to reflect changes in personnel and management structure, staff location, and services.QualificationsRequired SkillsExcellent level of strategic and commercial awareness, with outstanding proactive mindset to help our lawyers spot and capitalize on opportunities.Pragmatic, diplomatic, and resourceful, with the ability to adapt quickly to different situations and personalities.Demonstrated people management capabilities.Very strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects with minimal supervision.Ability to communicate effectively with tact and diplomacy, excellent writing skills, and an exact attention to detail in all work products.Experience of working independently, as well as within cross-functional and global operating teams, in a collaborative, professional environment.Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure.Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required; familiarity with, and willingness to leverage, the firm's AI tools preferred; and experience with Interaction and Foundation a plus.Education and ExperienceSeven (7) + years of relevant experience required, preferably in the legal or professional services industry.Knowledge of the sports, media, and/or entertainment industries is a plus.One (1) + year(s) of people management experience preferred.Bachelor's degree required; Degree in marketing, communications or related field is preferredPost-graduate qualifications (e.g. MBA) advantageous.HoursCore hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., including lunch hour, with flexibility to work outside normal business hours as needed. This position follows a hybrid schedule, with four days in the office and one day working remotely from home.In Washington, D.C., the expected base salary range for this role is $136,000 to $199,000 per year.
