Employment Services Supervisor

Job TitleSupervise and administer employment and child care programs while complying with local, state, and federal policies, by providing supervision to staff regarding work assignments; monitoring cases to ensure objectives are met; holding conferences to review cases; identifying case issues and solving them; evaluating task environment and makes recommendations to management; reviewing personnel behavior and recommending disciplinary actions as necessary; monitoring VIEW, Child Care, and SNAPET budgets; maintaining financial reports and records; and developing and maintaining cooperative relationships with both public and private parties.The essential functions of the job are not limited to those listed in the job description. The City retains the discretion to add to or change the duties of the position at any time.Provides administration and supervision for programs by reviewing case management to ensure proper implementation of policies; coordinating and monitoring staff activity; training new employees on government policies; maintaining high-level authority for controversial case decisions; mediating with employees and customers; maintaining Employment Services cases as needed; providing backup to all positions for Employment Services and Child Care; and attend meetings and trainings to review policies and procedures.Handles staffing functions by making staffing recommendations to management; implementing disciplinary actions as necessary; training employees in policies and procedures; holding staff meetings to relate information and discuss issues; and provide coaching and motivation to staff. Completes employee evaluations. Monitor cases to ensure that caseloads are evenly distributed. Provide weekly updates to supervisor, process timesheets for unit as well as monitor annual and sick leave.Supervises and handles financial responsibilities by monitoring program expenditures; monitoring budget progress and making changes when necessary; making budget recommendations to management; handling orders for gas cards and tokens for transportation services; preparing monthly expenditure reports for transportation services; and maintaining gas card and token inventories and balances.Maintains and fosters cooperative relationships by coordinating unit work on various levels; handling coordination with community agencies and other units; coordinating training objectives with external contractors; and communicating with customers for positive developments.Handles special project assignments; administers Family Unification Program for the Danville Redevelopment and Housing Authority; serves on relevant community boards; and acts on behalf of the director as designated.Performs additional duties as assigned.Education and ExperienceBachelor's Degree, with broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field; and three to five years of experience, including at least two years of appropriate and related experience in a Human Services related area. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the specific requirements listed aboveValid Driver's License with acceptable driving record according to City CriteriaJob KnowledgeAdvanced knowledge of the subject matter. Premiums are paid entirely by the employee through payroll deduction.Annual Leave: Employees accrue annual leave hours based on the length of time they work for the City and their duty cycle. Hours are accrued on a semi monthly pay cycle. Employees are not eligible to use annual leave hours during their first six months of employment.Critical Illness: The City provides optional critical illness insurance through Allstate. This insurance provides a lump sum benefit payment if an employee is diagnosed with a covered illness. Examples include heart attack, stroke, coronary atery by-pass surgery, and so on. Premiums are based on age and tobacco use. Premiums are paid entirely by the employee through payroll deduction.Cancer Benefit: The City provides optional cancer insurance through Allstate. This insurance provides a benefit payment if an employee is diagnosed with cancer and provides a benefit during cancer treatments. Premiums are paid entirely by the employee through payroll deduction.Deferred Compensation: The City of Danville offers a 457 plan to employees, which provides an opportunity to set aside a portion of your salary for retirement. Income taxes are not paid on the money your defer until you retire and start using it or leave the City. Enrollment in this plan is optional.Dental Insurance: Employees have the opportunity to enroll in dental insurance through Delta Dental. There is an option of a Low PPO plan or a High PPO plan, and coverage is available for immediate family members. Employees pay the entire premium for this insurance through payroll deduction.Direct Deposit: Employees have the option of having their paycheck directly deposited into your financial checking and/or savings account each pay period. Employees may select up to three accounts at the same or different financial institutions for direct deposit.Disability Insurance: Employees are given the option of selecting Short-term and/or Long-term disability insurance programs through The Standard for protection in the event that they become disabled through a non-work related injury. Premiums are paid entirely by the employee through payroll deduction.Employee Assistance Program (EAP): Employees and their dependent family members are eligible to use the City of Danville's Employee Assistance Program (EAP) with Sentara Health.
