Special Education Paraprofessional

Location: Raytown, MO
Job Type: Full-Time, School Year (with potential for extended year/summer hours) 
Reports To: Special Education Teacher / Program Coordinator

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Paraprofessional to support students with developmental, behavioral, and learning disabilities in a classroom setting. The ideal candidate will work closely with teachers, specialists, and families to help students build academic, social-emotional, and communication skills in a safe and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one and small-group support to students with IEPs under the direction of the classroom teacher and/or BCBA
• Implement behavior support plans and positive behavior intervention strategies
• Assist with academic instruction, including reading, writing, and math activities
• Support students' use of AAC devices and other assistive communication tools
• Help students develop social-emotional skills, self-regulation, and independence
• Monitor and document student progress toward IEP goals
• Assist with daily living skills and personal care as needed
• Support safe transitions between activities and settings (classroom, cafeteria, playground, community outings)
• Collaborate with teachers, related service providers, and families to ensure consistency across environments
• Assist with crisis prevention and de-escalation techniques when necessary

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree or coursework in education, psychology, or a related field preferred
• Prior experience working with children with disabilities in a school, home, or community setting preferred
• Experience with Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, or other developmental disabilities a plus
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification preferred, or willingness to obtain
• Knowledge of AAC devices, visual supports, and behavior intervention strategies preferred
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Patience, reliability, and a genuine passion for supporting student success
• Must pass background check/fingerprint clearance (as required for school-based positions)
• Valid CA driver's license a plus
