Responsibilities

The Department of Pediatrics at Mayo Clinic in La Crosse, WI, is seeking board certified/board eligible inpatient pediatricians/pediatric hospitalists to join a physician-led organization in a community practice. The department provides coverage for inpatient pediatric admissions, and the nursery in La Crosse in collaboration with the local Family Medicine Residency Program. The Family Birthplace ( birthing center in La Crosse experiences approximately 600 births annually. A team of Rochester-based pediatric specialists ( also provide outreach services in La Crosse on a scheduled basis.

The scope of the inpatient pediatrician/pediatric hospitalist duties include:

• Direct care of admitted pediatric patients within the hospital (typically 50 admissions annually)

• Consultations with colleagues on pediatric patients from within the region (clinic or hospital-based)

• Precepting and direct teaching of residents and other trainees, as re: research and other academic pursuits

• Citizenship and advancement of the inpatient pediatrician/pediatric hospitalist practice

The standard shift for the full-time (1.0 FTE) inpatient pediatrician/pediatric hospitalist is 24 hours per day for a total of 10 shifts per month. Inpatient pediatricians/pediatric hospitalists are required to be within 30 minutes of the hospital in order to cover the Level 1 nursery and pediatric admissions.

Qualifications

Candidates must be board certified / board eligible with the American Board of Pediatrics and be licensed or eligible to be licensed in the state of Wisconsin.
