By collaborating with curious, multidisciplinary teams, you will tackle the state’s most complex drainage and roadway projects—from interstates and urban corridors to bridges and design-build initiatives—delivering practical, lasting solutions while advancing your career and expanding your professional expertise.Role accountabilities:Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses to support stormwater management system designs, including drainage networks, culverts, channels, detention/retention systems, and floodplain evaluationsPrepare and review drainage reports, calculations, and construction documentation in accordance with project requirements and standardsEnsure compliance with state and local stormwater regulations, including coordination with the Tennessee Transportation Cabinet (TNTC) and the Tennessee Division of WaterDevelop stormwater design solutions for transportation, municipal, and infrastructure projects across Kentucky, ensuring alignment with environmental and permitting requirementsConduct watershed studies and floodplain analyses, including evaluation of potential impacts and mitigation strategiesCollaborate with multidisciplinary teams (roadway, structural, environmental) to integrate drainage and stormwater systems into overall project designSupport permitting efforts, including preparation of regulatory documentation and coordination with relevant agenciesAssist during construction phases by reviewing shop drawings, responding to RFIs, and providing technical supportQualifications & Experience:Required Qualifications7+ years of hands-on experience in stormwater and roadway drainage design, including culverts, bridges, detention/retention systems, and hydraulic modelingProven project management experience, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, mentoring junior engineers, and contributing to all phases of design-build and infrastructure projectsBachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field from an accredited programEngineer-in-Training (EIT) certification; Professional Engineer (PE) license or eligibility is a plusStrong understanding of state and local stormwater regulations, roadway design standards, and hydraulic analysis principlesFamiliarity with industry-standard design and modeling tools (HEC-RAS, HY-8, StormCAD, MicroStation, AutoCAD Civil 3D, OpenRoads, GIS) with a willingness to learn and adaptKey AttributesExperience contributing to DOT or state transportation projects is a plus, providing exposure to large-scale, high-impact infrastructure initiativesSolid understanding of FEMA floodplain regulations and ability to apply them in practical design solutionsStrong knowledge of stormwater design, including open channel conveyance, closed drainage systems, and post-construction water quality practices tailored to linear transportation projectsHands-on experience with hydraulic and stormwater modeling software, including Bentley StormCAD, CulvertMaster, FlowMaster, ICPR, HEC-RAS (1D/2D), HEC-HMS, HY-8, SWMM, SMS, SRH-2D, with the ability to learn new tools quicklyExcellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teamsDemonstrates initiative, adaptability, and problem-solving skills, regularly taking on new projects and challenges with confidencePossession of an NCEES record or willingness to establish one is a plus, supporting future PE licensureWhy Arcadis?We can only achieve our goals when everyone is empowered to be their best.
