Job Details

As the Quality Manager, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing quality control and quality assurance systems that ensure products consistently meet company, customer, regulatory, and certification requirements.

You will lead the Quality Department, manage quality systems and audits, oversee customer and supplier quality, investigate nonconformities, and implement corrective and preventive actions. This position will also play a key role in identifying opportunities to improve processes, reduce defects, strengthen quality standards, and support new product development.

Key Responsibilities
Manage the Quality Control / Quality Assurance Department and conduct monthly QA/QC reviews.
Maintain and continuously improve the company's quality assurance program and product quality standards.
Lead customer quality meetings, corrective-action reviews, and quality performance discussions.
Visit customer locations as needed to investigate quality concerns, communicate findings, and support resolution.
Lead investigations into customer complaints, product nonconformities, internal quality issues, and product recalls.
Partner with Production, R&D, Supply Chain, Procurement, and other departments to resolve quality issues and ensure production of quality products.
Drive preventive quality activities designed to reduce internal and external defects.
Conduct root cause analysis, statistical analysis, risk assessments, corrective/preventive actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Recommend and coordinate improvements to procedures, controls, testing, formulations, processes, raw materials, and equipment.
Establish and maintain a supplier quality management process for raw material suppliers, product suppliers, and applicable subcontractors.
Manage internal ISO 9001 audits, customer audits, NSF audits, UL audits, and other applicable third-party assessments.
Maintain certification records, listings, testing records, submissions, and documentation while assessing certification impacts associated with proposed changes.
Ensure compliance with product safety requirements, approved specifications, customer-specific quality requirements, and applicable certification standards.
Oversee quality documentation, including inspection requirements, production specifications, testing methods, procedures, forms, revision history, and document control.
Develop and maintain an effective calibration and measurement-control program for laboratory, inspection, and testing equipment.
Participate in daily production meetings and issue quality alerts as necessary to reduce customer complaints and improve product quality.
Develop and manage QC/QA capital and operating budgets, analyze variances, and initiate corrective actions when necessary.
Partner with R&D on quality requirements for new products.
Review nonconformance reports and work with Production and R&D to prevent or eliminate defects.
Identify training needs and provide coaching, direction, and performance oversight for QC/QA Supervisors.
Prepare departmental progress reports, future plans, budgets, manpower requirements, and quality performance updates for upper management.
Develop and maintain inspection, testing, and evaluation standards and methods.
Prepare monthly management reports covering customer complaints, internal nonconformities, audit findings, corrective actions, quality costs, trends, risks, and improvement initiatives.
Lead monthly Quality Sub-Committee meetings and participate in weekly management meetings.
Help develop long-range quality system goals and company policies related to QA/QC.
Maintain departmental budgets and support other quality-related projects as assigned.
Leadership Responsibilities

Four QC Technicians

What We're Looking For
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
7–10 years of quality control or quality assurance experience in a manufacturing environment.
3–5 years of management experience.
Experience managing ISO 9001 systems.
Experience supporting or leading NSF, UL, customer, or comparable third-party certification audits is highly preferred.
Experience in plastics, polymer compounding, PVC compounding, or a closely related process-manufacturing environment is strongly preferred.
Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification preferred.
ASQ certification or equivalent quality certification preferred.
Required Skills & Abilities
Strong ability to analyze complex defect data and identify root causes.
Knowledge of corrective action and continuous improvement methodologies.
Understanding of Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma concepts.
Ability to develop and monitor organizational KPIs.
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office 365.
Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
Strong interpersonal and cross-functional communication abilities.
Ability to identify, develop, and implement solutions to complex problems.
Strong attention to detail and ability to identify subtle defects or process inconsistencies.
Ability to train, coach, delegate, and develop quality team members.
Strong time-management skills and ability to work effectively under pressure.
Ability to promote personal accountability and quality performance throughout the organization.
Cross-Functional & Customer Interaction

The Quality Manager will work closely with managers, R&D, Production, Plant personnel, Procurement, Supply Chain, and other internal teams on a daily basis. The role also includes periodic interaction with customers, suppliers, and external certification organizations.

Work Environment

The majority of the role is performed in an office environment, with some light lifting of approximately 10 pounds. The position also requires time in the production facility, where there may be exposure to moving mechanical equipment, fumes or airborne particles, and extreme heat.
