Executive Director

the client seeks an experienced, forward-thinking Executive Director, Facilities Management to serve as a senior institutional leader during a critical period of organizational transformation. This role provides stewardship, performance oversight, and long-term resilience for the physical assets of a complex, multi-campus research environment, partnering with top-level leadership to shape facilities strategy, capital investment decisions, and risk management. The Executive Director will represent Facilities Management at the highest levels, articulating the current condition of facilities, developing and communicating long-range strategy, and framing investment options and tradeoffs in alignment with organizational academic and financial priorities. The Executive Director will lead a sustained transformation of Facilities Management, shifting from a reactive, legacy approach to a model grounded in industry best practices, preventive maintenance, resource optimization, and data-informed decision-making. Responsibilities include unifying teams, establishing shared purpose, building accountability across a newly formed leadership group, and strengthening collaboration by engaging staff and empowering managers to lead effectively. Success will be reflected in a culture of engagement, continuous improvement, and pride in service, supported by the ability to earn and maintain senior leadership trust through sound judgment, transparency, and strategic partnership. Operating as the senior leader with oversight across multiple campus facilities areas, the Executive Director will guide planning and execution of preventive and continuing maintenance, grounds, service-level agreements, customer communications, work control, and work order systems, as well as power plant operations, design standards, engineering, building automation systems, controls, and commissioning. Additional responsibilities include oversight of outsourced custodial and related services such as pest control, waste, elevators, and specialized MEP services, alongside responsibility for coordinating labor relations and managing outsourced custodial staff. The role requires a proven record of leading large-scale change in complex organizations and delivering measurable, sustained results, including improvements in operational effectiveness, organizational maturity, workforce alignment, and the ability to sustain progress over time.
