About our Department: The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) is located near the City’s downtown business and historic districts. Huntsville has 3 Police Precincts, approximately 500 sworn officers, 200 civilian personnel and patrols an area around 220 square miles. Part-Time Police Officer Position Overview: This is law enforcement work in the protection of life and property through, investigation of a specialized nature, assistance to citizens, arrest and detention, and related activities. Work involves prevention of crime, the enforcement of laws and ordinances, investigations of a specialized nature, apprehension of criminals, internal investigations, special assignments, enforcement of laws, regulations, ordinances, security work in safeguarding employees, public property and any special assignments designated and approved by the Chief of Police. Performs front desk duty. Qualifications and Necessary Special Requirements: High school diploma from a school accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or GED certificate issued by the appropriate state agency. Must be an APOSTC certified law enforcement officer who honorably retired in good standing with no pending disciplinary action. Must meet specific requirements as stipulated by the Alabama Peace Officer Handbook: Training Commission and other legal criteria as required.
