Software Engineering Manager

We are seeking a Software Engineering Manager – Backend to lead a high‑performing team of full‑stack and backend engineers in Plano, TX. The role focuses on designing scalable, resilient serverless architectures on AWS, driving API strategy, and ensuring the highest standards of code quality and system reliability. Key Responsibilities Lead, grow, and retain a team of engineers – hiring, coaching, performance reviews, and clear career paths. Own and direct the backend architecture and technical strategy for your domain, ensuring scalability, reliability, and maintainability. Drive engineering excellence through continuous improvement of code quality standards, API design conventions, testing practices, and CI/CD pipelines. Partner with Product, Design, and Front‑End Engineering to define and deliver features from concept to production. Champion system reliability, observability, and security as core engineering concerns. Establish best practices for API design, data modeling, event‑driven patterns, and serverless architecture on AWS. Collaborate with platform, infrastructure, and security teams to optimize deployment strategies, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud cost management. Communicate clearly with stakeholders at all levels – translating technical complexity into business impact. Balance strategic thinking with hands‑on involvement – reviewing PRs, unblocking engineers, and tackling hard problems. Monitor and improve key system metrics: latency, error rates, availability, and cost efficiency. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience. 10+ years of software engineering experience with a strong backend or full‑stack focus. 3+ years in an engineering management or tech lead role. Deep expertise in designing and building serverless architectures on AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB/Aurora Serverless, Step Functions, EventBridge/SQS/SNS, S3, CloudFront). Proficiency in TypeScript and/or Python for backend services; ability to write and review production‑quality code. Proven ability to design RESTful and GraphQL APIs with strong contract design, versioning, and type‑safe tooling. Solid understanding of Infrastructure as Code using AWS CDK, CloudFormation or Terraform. Experience with observability and monitoring tooling (CloudWatch, X‑Ray, Datadog, etc.). Strong grasp of security best practices – IAM, least‑privilege, secrets management, data encryption. Experience with testing practices: unit, integration, contract, and load testing for distributed systems. Familiarity with containerized workloads (ECS Fargate, Docker) for services that don’t fit the serverless model. Excellent communication skills – articulate technical trade‑offs clearly to engineers and non‑technical stakeholders. Additional experience in financial services, banking, or insurance is a plus. Experience designing multi‑account AWS architectures with governance and guardrails. Knowledge of data streaming patterns (Kinesis, MSK, etc.) and CI/CD pipelines is beneficial. Hands‑on experience with GraphQL federation, GenAI integration, and AWS certifications is an advantage.
