Site: Newton-Wellesley Hospital Job Summary The registered nurse renders highly professional and technical nursing care to assigned patients. The registered nurse provides direct and indirect patient care using the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation). Oversees other assigned team members and collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to provide population specific care in accordance with the BORN regulations and professional standards of care. The STAT Registered Nurse supports the care of unstable and critically ill patients throughout the Hospital when census and/or acuity dictate. The Device Clinic RN performs a variety of patient care and technical duties in our outpatient Device Clinic, including interrogation and programming; trans‑telephonic pacemaker follow‑up; and follow‑up of patients participating in research studies and clinical trials in cardiac pacing. Specialty Area Additional Requirements Adult GI: 2 years Critical Care/GI experience required, unless otherwise noted in job posting. ACLS required within first year of employment, CCGRN certification preferred. Assisted Reproductive Technologies Clinic (ARTC): Support BWH and MGH fertility practices, demonstrate advanced knowledge of reproductive health, BSN required upon employment, compete ASRM RN certificate course within 1st year, minimum 1 year experience in reproductive endocrinology practice. Cancer Center: Minimum one year experience administering chemotherapy in outpatient, assessment skills, knowledge of Hematology/Oncology pathophysiology, 3 years ambulatory oncology nursing strongly preferred, Oncology Nursing Certification (OCN) required within first year, Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Administration Certification Card required. Cardiovascular Center: 2 years Critical Care experience required, Cardiac ICU/CCU/Cath Lab experience preferred, interventional radiology or electrophysiology experience required, BLS/ACLS certification required. Device Clinic: 2 years device clinic experience with pacemaker programming and clinic follow‑up required, BCLS and ACLS certifications required, HRS/NASP certification preferred. ED: 2 years ED experience required, ACLS, PALS, CPI certifications required within first year, CEN or CCRN preferred. ICU: 2 years Critical Care experience required, ACLS required within first year. Labor & Delivery/AETU: 2 years L&D experience required, NRP required within first year. Maternal Fetal Medicine: Minimum two years perinatal experience, BSN required, BLS required, ACLS preferred. Med/Surg: 1 year Med/Surg experience required, telemetry training required within first year. Mother/Baby: 2 years Mother/Baby experience required, NRP required within first year. OR: 2 years OR experience required, AORN certification preferred. PACU/Henderson: 2 years Critical Care/PACU experience required, ACLS and PALS required within first year, CPAN/CAPA certification preferred. Pediatrics: 2 years Pediatrics experience required, NRP required within first year of cross training. Pedi GI: 2 years Pedi GI experience required, PALS required within first year. Psychiatry: 2 years Psychiatry experience required, CPI required within first month. SCN: 2 years SCN experience required, NRP required within first year. STAT RN: 2 years Critical Care/Emergency nursing experience required, ACLS, PALS, and CPI required within first year. Primary Care Triage RN: 2 years Triage/ER/Urgent Care/OuPatient experience required, ANCC RN‑BC preferred. Does this position require Patient Care? Develops individualized plan of care based on assessments and in collaboration with patient, family, and multidisciplinary team members. Engages patient/family/significant others as partners in care. Updates plan of care and nursing documentation based on continuing assessments. Implements clinical and technical aspects of care and physicians’ orders in compliance with standards of practice and care. Evaluates patient/family responses to established goals and interventions and revises plan of care accordingly. Sets priorities when planning and implementing patient care. Coordinates and collaborates with resources and multidisciplinary team members to facilitate a comprehensive discharge plan. Recognizes changes in patient’s physical and mental status and informs physician and/or other health care professional. Collaborates with Case Managers to anticipate discharge needs and address barriers. Identifies person primarily responsible for home care and includes them in teaching and discharge planning. Creates and maintains a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, self, and co‑workers. Uses two patient identifiers to match correct patient with correct care. Demonstrates principles of infection control, universal precautions, OSHA standards, hazardous material guidelines, and isolation procedures. Safeguards patient and hospital personnel privacy by protecting confidential information. Provides patient comfort and hygiene. Demonstrates proper use of equipment and supplies according to established procedures. Assesses need prior to restraints, utilizing alternative measures when appropriate. Demonstrates proper technique and calibration when performing point‑of‑care testing. Ensures equipment is operational and safe; removes from service if not. Responds appropriately to emergency situations. Promotes fall precautions, call bell use, side rails, and other safety practices. Treats patients and family with respect, non‑judgmentally. Advocates for the patient, makes them aware of rights and responsibilities. Provides emotional, psychological, and spiritual support. Participates in performance improvement activities and incorporates recommendations. Controls patient care costs through efficient management of supplies and services. Participates in performance improvement activities to evaluate outcomes and recommend revisions. Ensures complete, accurate, timely written communication of patient information. Completes all documentation consistently per hospital/unit policies. Ensures appropriate documentation in patient discharge instructions. Documents patient progress chronologically and organized. Provides safe, accurate, and timely medication and IV administration; consistently uses the “5 rights.” Scans patient, medication, and self barcodes where applicable. Demonstrates knowledge of drug action and appropriate interventions for adverse reactions. Verifies or rectifies patient medication record per unit protocols. Ensures correct infusion rates for continuous infusions, PCA, or epidural infusions. Collates and collaborates with multidisciplinary team for comprehensive education plans. Assesses need for patient/family education, formulates implementation plan, documents in record, evaluates outcomes, and modifies instruction accordingly. Accepts personal responsibility for performance and professional growth. Initiates changes to improve quality of nursing care. Works well with co‑workers, collaborates with health‑care team. Accepts and learns from constructive criticism. Maintains clinical competence, mandatory training, and regulatory requirements. Performs duties of charge nurse as needed. Acts as a resource and role model; assists in orientation and support of new staff. Advocates for patient by escalating concerns up the chain of command. Manages urgent and emergent situations effectively. Communicates effectively, promotes cooperative working environment via communication skills, resolves conflicts, sets expectations tactfully, solves problems, and ensures critical information transfer. Supports management decisions, goals, and initiatives. Device Clinic RN specific responsibilities: enroll, interrogate, program outpatient pacemaker patients; recognize abnormalities; coordinate with cardiology; educate patients and families; forward information to physicians; document and bill; lead device recall team; administrative duties for trans‑telephonic monitoring; oversee Cardiac Arrhythmia Service; provide cross‑coverage; act as resource to staff and administration; maintain policy knowledge; participate in continuing education. STAT RN specific responsibilities: assist with rapid responses and Code Blue; assist with admissions/transfers of critically ill patients; assist with care of unstable patients; assist with IV access and phlebotomy; assist with ICU patient transport; perform other clinical duties when no critical care support available; work under direct supervision of Nursing Administrator and nurse manager of intensive care. Qualifications Education Other Certificate/Diploma Nursing required or Bachelor’s Degree Nursing preferred Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree?
