Senior Director of Finance

Industry: Aerospace & Defense Manufacturing Status: Full-Time The Opportunity A well-established aerospace and defense manufacturer is seeking an experienced Senior Director of Finance to lead the financial operations and strategy of a key business unit. This is a highly visible leadership position that will work directly with senior management and operational leaders to strengthen financial performance, improve business processes, and support continued organizational growth. The ideal candidate will bring a combination of strategic finance leadership, aerospace and defense experience, government contracting knowledge, and strong operational finance expertise . This individual will oversee a finance organization and serve as a key partner to leadership on business planning, financial performance, investments, risk, and operational decision-making. What You Will Lead Financial Strategy & Business Planning Provide financial leadership for short- and long-term business planning. Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities. Evaluate business performance, financial risks, and investment opportunities. Translate financial results into actionable recommendations for executive and operational leadership. Support capital investment decisions, cost-reduction programs, and business improvement initiatives. Manage cash flow, working capital, and other financial requirements supporting business operations. Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with applicable accounting standards and company requirements. Maintain effective internal controls and support SOX compliance. Oversee financial activities associated with government and defense contracting requirements. Ensure appropriate financial practices related to FAR, DFARS, and DoD programs. Partner with auditors, tax professionals, and other external or regulatory parties as needed. Identify areas of financial exposure and establish controls and processes to reduce risk. Operational Finance Partner with operations and functional leadership to evaluate performance and identify opportunities for financial improvement. Provide financial analysis supporting operational planning and strategic decisions. Improve financial systems, reporting tools, and processes to increase accuracy and efficiency. Support leadership with financial forecasts, performance reporting, and business reviews. Drive greater visibility into financial performance across the organization. Leadership Provide leadership and direction to Controllers and finance professionals. Establish clear expectations and accountability throughout the finance organization. Mentor and develop team members while strengthening the overall capabilities of the finance function. Build strong partnerships across finance, operations, programs, engineering, supply chain, and executive leadership. What We Are Looking For Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline. CPA, CMA, or comparable professional certification. 8-12+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience. 3-5+ years of finance leadership experience. Strong aerospace, defense, government contracting, or similarly regulated industry experience. Working knowledge of FAR, DFARS, and DoD contracting requirements . Experience supporting SOX compliance and internal controls . Strong background in budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and financial analysis. Experience supporting capital expenditures, operational improvement, and cost-reduction initiatives. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience with Microsoft Office. Experience using Power BI or comparable reporting and data-visualization tools. Experience with ERP environments such as SAP, Oracle, Epicor, NetSuite, or comparable platforms. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with the ability to evaluate complex financial and operational issues. Demonstrated ability to communicate financial information effectively to senior and executive leadership. Proven ability to lead teams and manage competing priorities within a fast-paced business environment. Preferred Background MBA or master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. Senior finance leadership experience within aerospace and defense manufacturing. Experience supporting complex U.S. government or defense programs. The anticipated annual salary range for this position is $180,000-$232,000 , depending on experience and qualifications.
