2026 Salary Range: $89,508-$138,370 including locality pay

The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as a Data Scientist (Lead) in support of AFSC/FM leadership and other FM Organizations, with insights gained from analyzing FM Data. Extensive knowledge and experience using large data sets to find opportunities for operations and process optimization and using models to test the effectiveness of different courses of action. Experienced scientist utilizing a variety of data mining/data analysis methods, using a variety of data tools, building and implementing models, using/creating algorithms and creating/running simulations. Ability to drive business results with their data-based insights. Capable of working with a wide range of personnel and functional teams. Competent and detail oriented and passionate for discovering solutions hidden in large data sets and working with personnel to improve business outcomes, especially for the purposes of supporting enhanced oversight and management of the USAF, Defense Agencies and DoD Field Activities by facilitating DoD-wide analysis and management of its business operations. Provides program policy and procedures guidance and consolidates input for OL Directors and other FM senior leaders to answer SAF/FM, AFMC/FM, AFSC/CC inquiries, when required.

Requirements:

1. Basic Requirements: A. Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly

related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position. Or a combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of

study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience

2. Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.

3. May be required to obtain and maintain the proper security clearance

4. Financial Management Certification

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

1. Strong problem-solving skills with an emphasis on data, product development. Including experience using statistical computer languages (R, Python, etc...) to manipulate data and draw insight from large data sets.

2. Experience working with and creating data architectures.

3. Expert knowledge of polices principles, concepts, guidance, procedures, techniques, and methodologies pertaining to data management, operational enterprise data management, data architecture, and data services platforms.

4. Expert experience in data focused use case frameworks and execution; data assessment and outreach to data focused organizations.

5. Experience with visualization tools and experience with agile development including sprints, data stories, user stories, and user epics.

6. A drive to learn and master new technologies and techniques.

7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking skills, for coordinating across teams.

8. A demonstrated preference for leading by example through hands-on work on enterprise-focused date problem sets.
