Production SupervisorThe Production Supervisor oversees and coordinates the activities of production and operating workers within a high-volume manufacturing environment. This role ensures that axle assemblies and related components are produced safely, efficiently, and in accordance with customer, engineering, and manufacturing specifications. The supervisor manages day-to-day operations on the assembly line, drives quality and delivery performance, and leads a union-represented hourly workforce to meet production goals.Responsibilities include supervising and coordinating the daily activities of production and operating workers on the assembly line, executing daily production schedules based on OEM customer line-ups, monitoring daily production performance, recommending and implementing measures to motivate employees and improve production methods, developing and implementing production tracking and quality control systems, ensuring axle assemblies consistently meet all customer, engineering, and manufacturing specifications, leading root-cause analysis for quality concerns, coordinating closely with Logistics, Maintenance, Engineering, and Planning, ensuring smooth shift transitions, conducting a daily handoff meeting at the start of the shift, directly managing timekeeping, absenteeism, and accountability for union-represented employees, establishing clear performance expectations, developing employees through coaching, training, feedback, and performance evaluation, preparing and maintaining accurate production reports and personnel records, addressing conflicts early, escalating production risks and issues, managing a demanding production environment, and maintaining composure and effective leadership under stress.Essential skills include strong UAW-represented employees and in unionized manufacturing environments, manufacturing supervision experience, preferably within OEM or Tier 1 supplier settings, demonstrated ability to manage and lead a team of 10-15 or more union-represented hourly employees, proficient verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills, ability to work independently, knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control methods, knowledge of machines and tools used in manufacturing, understanding of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models, and ability to interpret and apply collective bargaining agreement provisions related to timekeeping, absenteeism, and employee accountability.Additional skills and qualifications include experience in an OEM or Tier 1 supplier manufacturing environment, supervising machining operations and material handling teams, experience implementing standardized work, quality procedures, and production tracking systems, proven ability to lead structured root-cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives, and track record of successfully managing teams with accountability and ownership challenges.Why work here? The environment is fast-paced and can be stressful, with frequent overtime and weekend work required to meet customer demand and production targets. You will supervise approximately 10 union employees within the machining department, primarily material handlers, in a setting that requires strong accountability and ownership. The facility uses industrial machinery, tools, and equipment typical of axle assembly and machining operations, and relies on standardized work procedures, production tracking systems, and structured quality control processes. Dress is casual, appropriate for a manufacturing plant environment, with an expectation of adherence to all safety and operational guidelines.Job type and location This is a contract position based out of Detroit, MI.Pay and benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
