Job Description This position is looking for an experienced Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Nocturnist to work in our Critical Care Resuscitation Unit (CCRU). The CCRU is a novel resuscitation unit for critically ill non‑trauma adult patients who are transferred from outside hospitals in need of specialty care at the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC). The unit, located in the Shock Trauma Critical Care Tower of the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, is staffed 24/7 with experienced critical‑care attending physicians, advanced practice providers, critical‑care registered nurses, registered respiratory therapists, and EMT‑B certified technicians. It is modeled after the highly‑effective Shock Trauma Resuscitation Unit and is designed to collaborate with referring facilities and pre‑hospital transport providers, facilitate prompt transfer of patients requiring specialized care, and deliver immediate resuscitation to patients with time‑sensitive emergencies. Qualifications Master of Science Degree with completion of an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program. Registered and currently recorded with the Maryland Board of Examiners of Nurses and certified as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Maryland. Certified in area of specialty (DEA and CDS eligible). CPR required. ACLS/BCLS as required for inpatient work. A minimum of one (1) year experience as a Registered Nurse. Demonstrated ability to promote professionalism through involvement in professional organizations, teaching, research, publishing, and/or certification in area of specialty. Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served. Knowledge of principles of growth and development over the lifespan and ability to assess data reflective of the patients’ requirements relative to their population‑specific and age‑specific needs. Highly effective verbal and written communication skills, including documented effective interpersonal skills. Maintains updated hospital safety and other mandatory training. Updated immunizations as recommended per practice area. Working Conditions Weekend, shift work, holiday, on‑call and overtime may be required. Potential for regular exposure to patients possessing infectious diseases; requires observance of universal precautions by wearing gloves, goggles, and mask. Patient Safety Ensures patient safety in the performance of job functions and through participation in hospital, department or unit patient safety initiatives. Takes action to correct observed risks to patient safety. Reports adverse events and near misses to appropriate management authority. Implements policies, procedures, and standards consistently in the performance of assigned duties. Develops effective working relationships and maintains good communication with other team members.
