Machine Operator

Job Description Pay Range: $20/hr – $28/hr. Schedule Monday: 8:15 AM – 8:15 PM Tuesday: 3:30 PM – 12:00 AM Wednesday & Thursday: 11:45 PM – 8:15 AM Sunday: 7:15 AM – 4:15 PM Responsibilities Perform job functions to maintain efficiency of assigned machines to meet departmental and company goals. Perform first articles on color and resin changes. Coordinate with Quality Control department on production activities, such as held ware, isolation procedures, etc. Utilize the MATTEC production reporting system to control and improve the process (production reporting, downtime reports, SPC, SQC). Make adjustments and maintain bottle operation of the conveying, flaming, robotic and inspection systems on any IBM machine. Keep equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and following manufacturer’s instructions and established procedures. Continuously improve the efficiency of the IBM production department by improving existing processes. Work with the supervisor in directing activities of utilities and packers assigned to the group leader. Be responsible for the complete ownership of assigned machines and lines. Contribute to the team effort. Support and adhere to all Berry safety policies. Follow and support all Berry GMPs. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Skills Remember department and company policies and procedures, and recall multiple operations. Analyze and prioritize projects, respond to instructions, and follow through independently. Have interpersonal skills to deal positively with others in a team environment. Gather information quickly, communicate to others, and react in a timely manner. Respond in emergency situations with a cool head and direct to the appropriate person. Maintain focus on multiple duties, prioritize, and adjust schedule as necessary. Maintain ownership of responsibilities in the department and support the quality system process. Have general mechanical ability. Speak, write, and read effectively. Comprehend at a normal business level. Possess good verbal and written communication skills. Have a basic understanding of how to use a computer. Have required tools to perform job functions. Education & Experience One year of experience in plastic blow molding or equivalent on-the-job training. High school diploma or equivalent. Physical Requirements & Work Environment Work twelve (12) hours per day with three 15‑minute breaks and one 30‑minute lunch; overtime on short notice may be required. Work safely near open flames, hot plastic, oil and metal (≈350‑380°F); possible exposure to dust and odors from oils, molten plastics, degreasers and cleaning solvents. Noise level is usually 90 dB and above; ear protection required. Work around sharp edges of machinery and moving machine components. Wear personal protective equipment: rubber‑soled steel‑toed shoes, ear plugs, safety glasses, hard hat, gloves and forearm sleeves. Occasionally lift 10‑50 lbs.; lift approximately 50 lbs. for 100 ft. twice daily on average; push/pull a 1 000‑lb. mold into position on a machine table. Stand on average 10 hours a day. Detect visual defects in a bottle; distinguish shades in color. Hear and recognize various sounds such as emergency machine shutdown alarms. Bending and twisting at a 90° angle will be required ≈50% of the day. Read and understand all work procedures and instructions. Organization Relationship Reports to the Production Supervisor.
