Position Summary Under the supervision and direction of the Deputy Chief Legal Counsel for the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance (OCI), the incumbent represents OCI in administrative hearings cases before the Department of Administration – Division of Hearings and Appeals; provides legal advice and opinions; and drafts and reviews insurance legislation and rules. This classification is assigned to pay schedule-range 09-75. Starting salary for the Health Insurance Attorney will be between $52.00 - $58.07 per hour depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan at the time of hire. This position has potential for a combination of remote and in-person work after an initial training period has been completed. A minimally qualified applicant will have graduated from an accredited law school and will be licensed to practice law in the State of Wisconsin upon hire. Qualified applicants will have education or training with each of the following: Researching, analyzing, and interpreting law Providing legal advice, counsel, and recommendations Providing legal representation (e.g., conducting litigation or hearings, negotiating, etc.) Preparing legal documents or memorandums (e.g., pleadings, briefs and allied court papers, legal opinions, administrative rules, orders, etc.) In addition, well-qualified applicants will have each of the following: Experience providing legal advice, counsel, and recommendations Experience providing legal representation (e.g., conducting litigation or hearings, negotiating, etc.) Experience preparing legal documents or memorandums (e.g., pleadings, briefs and allied court papers, legal opinions, administrative rules, orders, etc.) Education, training, or experience in Insurance (Health, Life and/or Property & Casualty) Law, and/or Administrative & Regulatory Law OCI is an Equal Opportunity and Aff… Veterans are encouraged to apply.
