Social Worker (Program Coordinator) - Prevention Management Disruptive Behavior

Summary

The incumbent serves as the Prevention and Management of Disruptive Behavior Program Coordinator and is responsible for coordinating and overseeing workplace violence prevention and de-escalation education programs across the organization.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy

• Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)
• Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited
• A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work

• Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level

• VHA may waive the licensure or certification requirement for persons who are otherwise qualified - pending completion of state prerequisites for licensure/certification examinations
• This exception only applies at the GS-9 grade level
• For the GS-11 grade level and above - the candidate must be licensed or certified
• At the time of appointment - the supervisor - chief social work or social work executive will provide the unlicensed/uncertified social worker with the written requirements for licensure or certification - including the time by which the license or certification must be obtained and the consequences for not becoming licensed or certified by the deadline

• In all cases - social workers must actively pursue meeting state prerequisites for licensure or certification starting from the date of their appointment
• Failure to become licensed or certified within the prescribed amount of time (3 years) will result in removal from the GS-0185 social worker series and may result in termination of employment

• Once licensed or certified - social workers must maintain a full - valid - and unrestricted independent license or certification to remain qualified for employment

• Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship - or equivalent supervised professional experience

• Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level - and must be able to provide supervision for licensure
• Documentation is required if part of your state's requirements for providing supervision for licensure is beyond your licensure only (example: certification of continuing education credits)

• In addition to the experience above - the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs (document with written demonstration of KSAs must be included with application - see required documents section): Knowledge of program coordination and administration which includes consultation - negotiation - and monitoring
• Knowledge and ability to write policies - procedures - and/or practice guidelines for the program
• Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program
• Skill in organizing work - setting priorities - meeting multiple deadlines - and evaluating assigned program area(s)

• Preferred Experience: Training facilitation and TMS administrator experience preferred
• Should possess or be willing to obtain Prevention Management Disruptive Behavior Master Trainer Certification

Duties

• VA Careers - Licensed Clinical Social Worker: Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Duties of this position are - but not limited to: The Social Work PMDB Program Coordinator focuses on individual growth and development in practice with increased levels of self-direction and limited critical thinking skills
• Provides educational instruction and training for all staff requiring Prevention and Management of Disruptive Behavior (PMDB) education in clinical - outpatient - and support service settings related to workplace violence prevention - de-escalation strategies - behavioral emergency response - and employee safety initiatives
• Understands instructional design - implementation - and application related to staff education and training
• Responsible for coordinating and managing training activities associated with the PMDB program - including scheduling initial and annual refresher training for over 2 -000 employees across 15 geographically separated locations throughout Iowa and western Illinois
• Coordinates PMDB training through the Training Management System (TMS) and ensures appropriate documentation is maintained within the employee Education System (EES)
• Obtains and maintains facility and master-level PMDB trainer certification and collaborates with facility trainers to ensure adequate instructor coverage and ongoing continuing education for PMDB trainers throughout the organization
• Monitors organizational compliance with PMDB education requirements to ensure employees complete required training within established timeframes
• Utilizes TMS and other tracking systems to complete annual PMDB training reports - monitor program effectiveness - and support training requirements based on identified risk levels
• Serves as a mandatory member of the Disruptive Behavior Committee (DBC) and collaborates with leadership - supervisors - and interdisciplinary teams to identify workplace safety concerns and additional training needs that support a safe environment for patients - visitors - and staff
• Coordinates and supports completion of the annual Workplace Behavioral Risk Assessment to ensure assigned PMDB training levels are accurate based on employee duty stations and organizational risk assessments
• Provides administrative support related to collection - tracking - trending - and reporting of data involving acute behavioral incidents and disruptive behavior events
• Assists with administrative inquiries and supports implementation of policies and procedures related to behavioral response and workplace violence prevention initiatives
• Tracks employee compliance with educational standards related to workplace violence prevention in accordance with VA and national policy
• Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday - 7:30am-4:00pm Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases
