Senior Database Engineer - Oracle

Salary: $90,000 - 130,000 per year Requirements:

• We require current authorization to work in the U.S. without present or future sponsorship from our company.
• We require residence in the United States, excluding Alaska and Hawaii.
• We require the ability to work within U.S. Central Standard Time core business hours.
• We look for 3+ years of production database administration experience, with strong Oracle or PostgreSQL expertise.
• We need experience in both on-premises and cloud environments, or strong depth in one with the ability to learn the other quickly.
• We require solid SQL capability, including writing and interpreting complex queries, assessing changes, and spotting inefficient or incorrect scripts.
• We look for experience supporting application development teams with troubleshooting, release coordination, and change review.
• We expect a commitment to security in daily work and decision-making.
• Preferred: a bachelors degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems, or a related discipline.
• Preferred: experience with cloud-managed database services such as AWS RDS or Aurora, including backup, replication, and failover.
• Preferred: experience with PL/SQL or PL/pgSQL stored procedures and functions.
• Preferred: hands-on experience with Oracle tools such as OEM, RMAN, and Data Guard.
• Preferred: experience using infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform for cloud setup and support.
• Preferred: experience working in a Unix command-line environment and with scripting languages such as Shell, Python, or Perl.
• Preferred: familiarity with Agile practices and tools such as JIRA and Confluence.
• Preferred: understanding of data governance and security standards such as PCI.

• We implement approved DDL and DML changes across production and non-production environments.
• We manage and use database scripts in Bitbucket to support release and change management workflows.
• We review and approve application-driven database changes to ensure performance, security, operational, and recoverability standards are met.
• We examine application SQL for correctness, efficiency, and safety.
• We build and maintain a strong understanding of application data models, including core tables, relationships, data flows, and schema usage, to aid troubleshooting and change evaluation.
• We monitor database health, performance, and capacity, and respond to alerts.
• We support application teams in resolving database-related issues.
• We assist with release cycles, patching, upgrades, and routine maintenance.
• We support backup, recovery, and restore validation activities.
• We facilitate user access management and support data security practices, including PII awareness and customer data redaction requests.
• We participate in an on-call rotation with some light after-hours support.
