SMAW (7018) Production Welder
Express Employment is partnering with a growing manufacturer to add a reliable SMAW welder to the team in River Rouge, MI. If you run clean beads with a 7018 low-hydrogen rod and want to expand into MIG, this role offers hands-on training while you contribute on day one.
A day in this roleYou arrive for an early start, review basic weld specs, and set up your station. Through the day, you lay consistent 7018 stick welds on production and light fabrication work, verify fit-up against instructions, and keep your area organized and safe. As production targets approach, you balance speed and precision—then spend part of the shift cross-training on MIG under the guidance of experienced welders.

Compensation$18–19 per hour
Schedule- Monday–Thursday: 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM
- Friday: 6:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Saturday: 6:00 AM – 12:00 PM
- Execute stick welds using 7018 low-hydrogen electrodes
- Support fabrication and production welding assignments
- Interpret and follow basic welding specifications and instructions
- Keep the work area clean and organized with a strong safety mindset
- Hit production timelines while upholding quality standards
- Participate in hands-on MIG welding training
- Proven 7018 stick welding experience
- Background in fabrication or manufacturing preferred
- Comfort working long shifts in a fast-paced shop
- Consistent attendance and solid work ethic
- Interest in learning MIG and additional shop skills
- Ability to safely lift, move, and handle materials
