Machinist 1Northrop Grumman is looking for a Machinist 1 to support our machining department. As a member of the machining department you'll get to waterjet machine composites. This position will serve on-site at our San Diego structures site.Responsibilities Sets up and operates a variety of machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, planers, and precision grinders to make metal parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines to exacting tolerances and dimensions. Interprets blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications; determines sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup; uses a variety of machinist hand tools and precision measuring instruments; makes standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds, and speeds; measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points to Client out stock for machining; fits and assembles precision parts into mechanical equipment and determines material, parts, and equipment required. Some machines may be numerically controlled. May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures. Typically requires completion of a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience. Position is for 2nd Shift Hours: 01:00 PM to 10:00 PMBasic Qualifications for Machinist 1 Must have experience with setting up and running Flow waterjet.Able to understand machining theory and strategyAble to understand and interrogate mechanical drawings and tolerancesAbility to use common machine shop hand and measurement toolsSelf-motivation, able to accomplish a high level of workTeam player, actively participating in continuous improvement projects with coworkers.Demonstrate high skill level with the desire for continuous learningProven analytical and problem-solving abilities.Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks.Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills.Ability to work with limited supervision including using sound judgment to execute independent decisions and departmental initiatives.Adept at reading, writing, and interpreting technical documentation and procedure manuals.Highly self-motivated and directed.Keen attention to detail.Skilled at working within a team-oriented, collaborative environment.Ability to learn new technologies and adapt to change.Preferred Qualifications for Machinist 1 Experience programming with Flow software.Prior experience in an aerospace environment preferredThis position is intended to be contracted to hire.
