About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 1 year recent ICU experience required. License: Pending Michigan license acceptable. Certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), NIHSS required. Must-Have: - Flexibility with summer holidays required. - Weekend requirement: every other weekend. - Must float to other ICU and Med-Surg units as needed. Description: ASAP start is required. Holiday coverage is required; however, any requested time off during holidays must remain flexible to accommodate staffing demands. No requested time off is allowed in the first two weeks of the assignment. Patient ratios will be 1:1 to 4 depending on acuity. Our ICU includes a mix of PCU and ICU patients. PCU and general medicine/transfer status can be in a 4:1 group based on acuity. ICU and PCU can also be in a mix of 3:1 based on acuity. Ventilated patients are in a 2:1 ratio. Cooling, CRRT, or high acuity patients will be in a 1:1 group. Average number of vents per day is 3. Staffing flexibility is crucial as the acuity levels change. Patient diagnoses include COPD, encephalopathy, drug overdose, DKA, AKI, respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, heart failure, and A-fib. Special procedures performed include CRRT, A-line placement, CVC placement, tracheostomy placement, and chest tube placement. Special equipment used includes cooling machines, Bair Huggers, massive transfusions, and CRRT. Required skills encompass cardiac monitoring and emergency response, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, IV therapy, medication administration, neurological care, and respiratory support. This unit has interdisciplinary support, including physical therapy, respiratory services, and pharmacy. Patient care focuses on adults and geriatrics. Expected daily census is around 15 patients, with a total of 20 beds available.
