High‑energy candidates with strong work ethics who are eager to participate in field surveying and technical work are desired. Position Overview This role involves operating survey data collection instruments for survey crew activities. The Survey Instrument Operator reports to the Party Chief and Sr. Survey Manager and is responsible for conducting survey equipment operations, including metal detectors, GNSS receivers, data collectors, total station and robotics, levels, and supporting equipment. The position has overall responsibility to maintain field equipment, support the field survey team in producing quality deliverables, work safely and efficiently, and maintain high utilization goals. Responsibilities Coordinate daily task assignments and project prioritization with the Party Chief and Sr. Survey Manager. Use established workflows and procedures for operating equipment. Collect topographic and boundary evidence data utilizing a field‑to‑finish format. Document clear and accurate notes along with detailed sketches. Assist in the daily download of survey data. Ensure charging of equipment batteries and overall equipment readiness. Assist with field survey equipment updates, including software and hardware renewals. Assist with setting up temporary traffic control and aid in crew safety. Willingness to travel out of town and to other states is a plus but not required. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent with 1+ years of experience as an Instrument Operator. Knowledge of mathematics and earth sciences, geography experience, and computer skills. Valid driver's license and clean driving record for operating company vehicles. Competent use of essential computer software such as Microsoft Office. Requirements Maintain a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final consideration. Read, write, and understand plans and directions given in the English language. Basic computer skills with the ability to create and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents, send Outlook emails, and utilize SharePoint and Microsoft Teams to communicate with other team members. Able to stand for approximately 3 hours minimum a day up to 8 hours. Able to traverse a construction job site consisting of uneven ground varying in height and consistency of material, with a variation of elevation 19" or less (mud, gravel, rutted ground, etc.). Able to wear GPI required PPE (hard hats, safety vest, work boots, and/or safety glasses/goggles) while working. Able to move equipment or inspection specimens weighing up to 50 pounds.
