Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you will be a vital member of Maricopa County's Correctional Health Team and work in partnership with Maricopa County Sheriff's Detention Officers. You will perform specialized nursing functions, including administering medications, therapeutic treatments, providing extensive patient care, and participating in the planning, implementation, and overall nursing care evaluation.

We require a valid, unrestricted license as a licensed practical nurse issued by the Arizona State Board of Nursing or issued by another state recognized by the Arizona Board of Nursing as a multi-compact license state.

We also value experience as a licensed practical nurse, experience in a medical setting, requiring large medication passes, and intravenous infusion therapy/venipuncture certification.

Job contributions include providing healthcare to patients inside the Maricopa County Jails, providing health-related education as appropriate to patient needs, administering medication and completing related pharmacological procedures, collecting data for assessment of care needs, reporting findings, and delivering appropriate nursing interventions, monitoring patient's progress and reporting outcomes, and participating in orientation and training of new employees, contract staff, students, and others.

Working conditions include the ability to work inside a jail, the ability to respond to emergencies, the ability to get on the floor to perform CPR/chest compressions, push medical equipment, climb stairs, and lift patients on a gurney that may weigh up to 35 pounds, and being assigned to various clinical locations in the Phoenix area within a 5-mile radius.
