Recreation Specialist I - Madison Jobe Senior Center

Duties: The Recreation Specialist I plans, organizes, and leads recreational programs, special events, and services for active seniors. This position fosters community engagement, promotes wellness, and enhances the quality of life for senior participants through creative programming, strong customer service, and teamwork. Plan and lead daily recreational activities, field trips, and special events for seniors. Develop new programs and suggest improvements to current offerings. Assist with marketing and outreach, including creating flyers, calendars, and newsletters. Build and maintain partnerships with sponsors and community organizations. Set up and break down rooms for activities; ensure equipment is prepared and functional. Greet and assist visitors, provide tours, and answer phones. Drive City vehicles, including buses, to transport participants to and from activities. Respond to incidents and emergencies appropriately; maintain a safe environment. Support event logistics, hospitality, and overall facility operations. Supervise part‑time staff or volunteers as directed. Assist with cleaning and decorating the facility when needed. May be required to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and/or weekends. May be required to assist in cleaning facilities in the absence of custodial staff. Works the assigned schedule and complies with the City’s timekeeping and attendance policy. Must have and maintain, without interruption, all necessary licenses, certifications, clearances, and/or job requirements. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation Administration, Senior Adult Services, Gerontology, or closely related field. Minimum of 1-2 years of related experience; a candidate with a combination of related experience and education may be considered. Valid Texas driver's license and a good driving record. Obtain CPR certification, First Aid certification and Food Manager certification within six months of hire. PREFERRED: prior experience working directly with seniors and individuals with disabilities. Bilingual (English/Spanish). Valid Class B CDL with passenger endorsement. From 6 to less than 11 years of service - three weeks of vacation per year. From 11 to less than 21 years of service – four weeks of vacation per year.
