Position Summary
The Sales Representative is a full-time role dedicated to helping Appaloosa Painting Co. achieve its purpose, mission, and vision. This person owns the front end of the customer journey — responding to new estimate requests, conducting professional on-site estimates, closing projects, generating new business through local networking and canvassing, and handing off sold projects cleanly to the Project Manager. Success in this role directly drives the company's revenue milestones.
Core Responsibilities
1. Estimate Scheduling & Confirmation
- Respond to new estimate appointments on the Google Calendar by calling the customer to confirm the appointment.
- Ask whether the customer could have the estimate done sooner, moving appointments up the calendar whenever possible to shorten time-to-estimate.
2. On-Site Professionalism
- Arrive on time to every estimate.
- Dress presentably or in Appaloosa gear.
- Park in customer-designated locations.
- Verify whether shoes may be worn inside the home before entering.
3. Conducting the Estimate
- Walk the property with the customer to understand the scope, goals, and expectations (15–30 minutes).
- Re-walk the property to input measurements into the estimating software (30–45 minutes).
- Use the software's automatic calculation functions so materials and labor time are accurately priced.
- Email the estimate to the customer before leaving the site, then review it together to discuss objections and offer promotions (10–15 minutes).
- Complete most estimates within one hour; reserve the full two-hour window only for very large projects.
4. Business Development
- Network with local affiliates including real estate agents, investors, HOAs, country clubs, and wineries to build referral relationships.
- Distribute door fliers in neighborhoods adjacent to current jobs, scheduled estimates, and past clients.
- Build and manage a small team of canvassers to distribute fliers at scale (5,000+ per campaign) across entire neighborhoods to generate leads.
- Locate, sign up for, and attend local events where Appaloosa can expand its brand presence.
5. Sales Pipeline Management & Follow-Up
- Manage the sales pipeline within our estimating/CRM software, keeping every estimate accurately tracked as scheduled, sent, accepted, or pending.
- Conduct regular, scheduled follow-up on estimates that were sent but did not close.
6. Project Hand-Offs & Team Communication
- Conduct daily and weekly meetings and calls with the location's Project Manager to hand off projects once a customer has accepted an estimate and paid their deposit.
- Hand-offs include: the work order, the customer's required materials (if already selected), project time frames, and customer expectations.
- The Sales Representative owns the customer relationship from first contact through signed contract and deposit; the Project Manager owns the project from hand-off through completion. Once a project is handed off, production questions route to the Project Manager.
- Attend the weekly team video-call meeting.
- Maintain excellent communication with team members and customers, proactively sharing information and status updates.
Performance Standards
- Same-day (or faster) confirmation calls on all new estimate requests.
- Estimates delivered and reviewed with the customer on-site — before leaving the property.
- Pipeline kept current daily; no estimate left without a scheduled next touch.
- Maintain a minimum 30% close rate on company-provided leads (after the initial 90-day ramp period).
- Consistent weekly business development activity (networking, canvassing, and/or local events), with self-generated appointments and partner outreach logged in the CRM.
- Clean, complete project hand-offs with zero surprises for the Project Manager or crew.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Full-time availability and full commitment to Appaloosa's purpose, mission, and vision.
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license; ability to travel throughout the service area daily.
- Strong in-person communication and consultative selling skills; comfortable discussing pricing and handling objections face-to-face.
- Organized and self-directed — able to manage a calendar, a pipeline, and follow-up cadences without supervision.
- Comfortable learning and using estimating/CRM software, Google Calendar, and email daily.
- Professional appearance and demeanor appropriate for entering customers' homes and businesses.
- Prior sales, estimating, painting, construction, or home-services experience preferred but not required.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary: $24,000–$30,000 depending on experience
- Commission — uncapped:
- 10% of contract value on company-provided leads.
- 12% of contract value on self-generated leads.
- Commission is earned and paid on cash collected.
- Realistic first-year earnings: $70,000–$110,000, uncapped — top performers exceed $150,000.
- Lead flow provided: 5–8 company-scheduled estimates per week, plus established referral partner networks, call scripts, and estimating/CRM tools to support self-generated business.
- Expenses: Company covers gas. Sales Representative provides their own vehicle and phone.
- Growth path: Clear advancement track from Senior Estimator → Sales Manager → Director of Sales as sold volume, close rate, and team-building milestones are achieved.
