Through the combination of nine industry-leading operating companies, PAL operates the largest auto transportation fleet in North America, offering a broad range of services primarily focused on transporting finished vehicles from automotive production facilities, marine ports of entry, and regional rail yards to auto dealerships around North America.The Fleet Maintenance Manager provides overall leadership for the Auto Transport Group shop in Ogden, Utah, supporting company-owned auto haul equipment. This role oversees maintenance and repair activities for auto haul tractors, trailers, and related equipment to ensure safe, compliant, reliable, and cost-effective operations. The Fleet Maintenance Manager is accountable for fleet uptime, customer satisfaction, regulatory compliance, team performance, and financial results.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesLead maintenance and repair operations for company-owned auto haul tractors, trailers, and support equipment, including in-house shop work and outside vendor repairsCoordinate timely response to roadside breakdowns, including mobile repairs, towing, driver transportation, and lodging when neededWork with repair facilities across multiple states to support equipment operating outside the local market, ensuring quality workmanship, timely completion of repairs, and excellent customer serviceMaintain preventive maintenance programs to maximize equipment reliability, availability, and complianceMonitor fleet performance, maintenance trends, and cost performance to reduce downtime and control operating expensesTrain, coach, and evaluate team members while fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvementEnsure compliance with all DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, EPA, and company policies and regulationsMaintain accurate maintenance records, inspection documentation, and repair historiesOversee parts inventory management to ensure adequate stock levels while controlling costsReview and approve repair estimates, work orders, purchase orders, and invoicesPartner with Operations and Equipment leadership to prioritize repairs, improve asset utilization, and support service objectivesMonitor key performance indicators related to fleet reliability, safety, cost control, and financial performanceDrive continuous improvement initiatives focused on operational excellence, equipment reliability, and customer satisfactionPerform other duties as assignedRequirementsHigh school diploma or GED required; associate degree, technical training, or industry certifications preferredThree or more years of fleet maintenance experience with Class 8 tractors and trailersThree or more years of maintenance leadership experienceExperience with auto haul equipment strongly preferredAbility to manage high-pressure and time-sensitive situations effectivelyStrong problem-solving, interpersonal, communication, and listening skillsCurrent Class A CDL strongly preferredKnowledge of DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and environmental compliance requirementsStrong leadership, organizational, and financial management skillsProficiency with maintenance management systems and Microsoft Office applicationsEquivalent combinations of education, certifications, and experience will be consideredAbility to work in office, shop, and outdoor environmentsAbility to walk, stand, climb, and conduct equipment inspections frequentlyAbility to occasionally lift up to 50 poundsAbility to work around heavy equipment and varying environmental conditions
