Cafeteria Worker

Purpose: To prepare and serve safe, healthy meals to our students and staff. To maintain food service facilities and equipment in a neat, clean, safe, and sanitary condition.



Brief Description: A food service assistant manager's responsibilities include a wide range of tasks that keep the kitchen running smoothly, assisting, organizing, evaluating and adhering to all food safety regulations.



Must have at least 2 years of experience in food service with a school district

Reports to: Immediate supervisor. (Manager first if manager not available than director)


Job Requirements:

1. Skills:

1. Requires the skill to assist in the management of all phases of operation regarding cafeteria functions.
2. Requires the skill to use small office equipment and computers and to maintain accurate records.
3. Requires the skill to perform accurate mathematical calculations.
4. Requires the skill to maintain accountability for inventory/property management.
5. Excellent communication skills

1. Knowledge:

1. Comply with all district policies, rules and regulations.
2. Comply with department dress code.
3. Knowledge of food values and proper food combinations necessary to meet nutritional standards.
4. Knowledge of procedures and equipment used in the storage, preparation, cooking and serving of food quantities.
5. Knowledge in the safe operation of commercial food service equipment
6. Complete required local and TDA training annually

3. To ensure that all equipment is being used properly and being cleaned daily.
4. To make sure all food items are completed in a timely manner as to meet scheduled demands.
5. To serve customers in a fast, efficient and friendly manner
6. To ensure correct portion sizes are being served.
7. To follow guidelines to ensure correct serving temperatures.

1. Physical Requirements:

1. Requires the ability to stand for long periods.
2. Requires the ability to stoop, bend, kneel and reach.
3. Requires the ability to manually move, lift, carry, pull or push heavy objects up to 50 pounds.
4. Must be able to work in a noisy and crowded environment.

1. Essential Functions/Responsibilities

1. Monitor food preparation, portion sizes and ensure the food is presented in an acceptable manner.
2. Ensure that staff are following recipes.
3. Assists food service staff with the operations of the kitchen.

4. Receive food and paper deliveries, checking delivery to verify product, quality and buy american.


5. Help put away groceries as they come in, date organize and rotate making sure that we are using the oldest product first.


6. Inspire staff to do their best through coaching and supportive feedback.


7. Ensure health and safety regulations are followed.


8. Make sure temperature records are being completed daily.


9. Complete production records daily


10. Work registers at breakfast and lunch


11. Be available for work by 6:00 am if the manager cannot be here - open kitchen - begin breakfast.


12. Run reports, make bank deposits if the manager is not available.
