The Opportunity We are seeking an Accounting Manager to take ownership of day-to-day accounting and financial reporting across our corporate and project entities. Working closely with the CFO and finance team, this individual will maintain accurate books, lead the close process, and strengthen the systems supporting a growing development platform. This is a hands-on position for someone comfortable moving between transaction-level detail and complex real estate accounting. The Accounting Manager will help implement automation of routine accounting functions, maintain effective controls, and coordinate with clients, vendors, and external tax consultants. Key Responsibilities Corporate and Entity Accounting Own the general ledger and month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes for the operating company and assigned affiliated entities. Prepare and review journal entries, bank reconciliations, accruals, prepaid expenses, and supporting balance sheet schedules. Reconcile inter-company advances, reimbursements, management and development fees, and other related-party balances. Real Estate and Development Accounting Maintain project-level accounting for land, development costs, construction in progress, tenant improvements, and operating properties. Track project expenditures against budgets and support construction draw requests with reconciled accounting records and supporting documentation. Oversee accounts payable and receivable, including vendor invoices, rent billing, client billings, and expense reimbursements. Support lease accounting and tenant operating expense and property tax reconciliations. Maintain debt and interest schedules, member capital accounts, and records of contributions and distributions. Support acquisitions, financing transactions, dispositions, and project closeouts, including closing entries and cost-basis schedules. Reporting, Controls, and Systems Prepare year-end workpapers and supporting schedules for external tax advisors and coordinate responses to accounting inquiries. Establish consistent charts of accounts, entity setup procedures, close checklists, and accounting documentation. Improve QuickBooks Online and related workflows through automation, integrations, and standardized processes. Maintain payment controls, approval workflows, and clear audit trails; investigate exceptions and resolve discrepancies. Coordinate external bookkeeping or close support, reviewing deliverables and ensuring timely completion. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field. Ideally, 5+ years of commercial real estate accounting experience , with direct exposure to development, construction, or multi-entity real estate operations. CPA strongly preferred. Experience independently completing month-end closes and preparing financial statements. Strong understanding of accrual accounting, real estate development costs, intercompany accounting, and partnership or joint venture structures. Proficiency with QuickBooks Online and Excel; experience implementing accounting systems, integrations, or automated workflows is highly valued. Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing deadlines across multiple entities. Ability to communicate accounting issues clearly and exercise sound judgment when information is incomplete. Location Candidate hired into this role will be required to work in-person in the Canopy 5 office in Indianapolis, IN on a weekly basis, but flexible work arrangements will be considered.
